Required Qualifications (as evidenced by an attached resume):Bachelor's Degree (foreign equivalent or higher). Ten (10) years of full-time leadership in the administration of grants, contracts and/or administration of complex federal awards. Experience with personnel management. Professional experience at an institution of higher education.
Preferred Qualifications:Advanced terminal degree (or foreign equivalent). Additional years (11+) of full-time experience in research administration. Demonstrated success working across disciplines in an academic setting, preferably in a leadership position. In-depth knowledge of federal funding agencies. Experience with federal or state funding as a PI/CoPI.
Brief Description of Duties:
The Associate Vice President for Research Operations will report directly to the Vice President for Research and will serve as a senior member of the Office of the Vice President for Research leadership team. This individual will provide strategic leadership and oversight over the university's Sponsored Programs Administration and Grants Management, collaborating with OSPA Directors and personnel to deliver a strong culture of customer service, support, professionalism, accountability, and compliance and to facilitate institutional stewardship of externally sponsored programs. Have oversight of the day-to-day operations of the Office of the Vice President for Research and will provide strategic planning for, and oversight of, the infrastructure necessary to support operational efficiency and continued growth in research activities. This includes active engagement in policy development for proposal submission and management, as well as policies affecting operations for the Office of the Vice President for Research and the research environment of the University.
Engage research faculty, college/school/unit research leadership (e.g., Research Deans, Department Chairs), and the research community on all matters related to the programmatic and administrative management of externally sponsored programs. Collaborate with the research community to facilitate the efficient and effective management of externally sponsored programs with particular emphasis on enhancing/increasing the volume (number and dollars) of sponsored programs that are awarded to the university. Maintain knowledge of legal, regulatory, and policy matters affecting the university's research mission and sponsored programs portfolio and collaborate with the research leadership team and college/school/unit research leadership to develop policies and assign resources and infrastructure to manage these areas. Identify and manage emerging trends in compliance that may affect the conduct of research and other sponsored activities at the university and engage with external sponsors/parties and national organizations (e.g., COGR) to manage emerging issues. To be successful in the role, a proven track record of documented accomplishments in complex administrative roles is required for the Associate Vice President for Research Operations. The ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others in a deadline-driven environment is essential. The Associate Vice President for Research Operations must have strong oral and written communication skills.

This is a Management Confidential position. This is a full-time appointment. FLSA Exempt position, not eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA. Minimum salary threshold must be met to maintain FLSA exemption.
