Marcum LLP is seeking an experienced Assurance Manager to join our growing and well-established national firm in our New Haven, CT office. This position requires a high-energy experienced assurance professional with strong interpersonal and supervisory skills.

Managers possess the ability to handle the day-to-day planning of client engagements and supervise the activities of staff assigned to audit engagements, as well as perform and have a strong knowledge capital of all audit functions. Managers will assist junior staff with understanding general audit practices, as well as Marcum LLP practices, procedures, and systems, and should also possess the desire and ability to maintain positive client relationships and cross-sell the firm's other services.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for managing assurance engagements under the direction of both Directors and Partners.
  • Be an active role-model and leader for staff to emulate.
  • Coordinate various planning phases of engagements and ensure work is on schedule.
  • Generate budgets and maintain profitable realization standards on engagements.
  • Review and evaluate workpapers, and determine compliance with professional standards and firm policy.
  • Review reports and financial statements.
  • Review with the engagement Director and/or Partner significant findings that raise questions involving auditing standards and firm policy.
  • Manage risk and ensure quality control procedures are being executed.
  • Coordinate various phases of engagements, budget time and expenses, monitor actual performance against budget, review work papers for accuracy and completeness, and review financial statements for suitability of presentation and adequacy of disclosures.
  • Develop and maintain positive working relationships with client management and staff.
  • Provide on-the-job training to associates.
  • Represent the firm by presenting on areas of expertise at 3rd party events.
  • Effectively manage employee and client expectations.
  • Complete performance evaluations constructively and timely, provide ongoing performance feedback to employees; and to the New England Service Line Partner as needed.
  • Maintain required annual CPE.
  • Communicate engagement needs to the client.
  • Recognize extended services opportunities.
  • Keep current on professional pronouncements.
  • Proactively participate in professional development opportunities.
  • Coach staff.
  • Practice development initiatives (recommended).

Qualifications

  • MBA/BS/MS in Accounting from an accredited college or university.
  • CPA certification, required.
  • 6+ years of accounting experience, including experience in public accounting.
  • Proven technical skills with Excel, Word, and Outlook.
  • Experience with accounting software, ProSystem FX engagement preferred.
  • Solid organization skills with a demonstrated ability to multi-task.
  • Ability to travel to client locations both within and out of CT.
  • This is not a remote position. Candidate considerations must be able to work in the office and/or client locations minimally 3 days per week.
