Position Type: Athletics/Activities/CoachingDate Posted: 9/28/2023Location: Allendale-Fairfax High School(High-Needs School)Date Available: ImmediatelyClosing Date: Open until filled Position Title: Athletic Trainer Department: Athletics Reports To: Principal/Athletic Director FLSA Status: Non-Exempt SUMMARY Assists the athletic coaches and athletes to overcome injuries or improve sports performance. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Develops plans for providing athletic trainer coverage at athletic activities on a schedule cooperatively determined by the athletic trainer and athletic director. Establishes daily hours of operation for the athletic training room. Provides for evaluation and immediate care of athletic injuries; refers athletes to medical facilities when necessary. Designs and supervises rehabilitation programs for athletic injuries under the direction of a referring physician. Responsible for developing comprehensive emergency plans for his/her specific facilities. Provides for the prevention of athletic injuries through the application of protective taping, wraps, and braces. Advises coaches of flexibility, strengthening, and conditioning programs to help prevent injuries and optimize performance. Maintains high-quality medical records on all injuries and rehabilitation procedures. Complies with all policies regarding health care delivery as indicated by District regulations. Supervises athletic training for student aides; serves as a liaison between physicians, coaches, athletes, and parents. Counsels athletes on health related issues including nutrition and substance abuse. Handles clerical tasks, such as maintaining inventory, assisting with budgets, or restocking supplies. Informs the principal, athletic director, coaches of conditions and needs of the school. Performs other duties as required. JOB SPECIFICATIONS Education and Experience: Requires a minimum of a Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Must possess National Athletic Trainer Association (NATA) Board Certification and South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control (SCDHEC) Certification. Knowledge: Knowledge in the development, planning, organization, implementation and management of instructional programs and practices designed to meet educational objectives and requirements. Knowledge of the standards, regulations, and laws relating to educational activities. Knows how to keep abreast of changes in policy, standards, procedures, and regulations pertinent to the school. Skills/Effort: Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with school and district staff. Ability to instruct others through explanation, demonstration and supervised practice, and/or make recommendations on the basis of technical disciplines. Ability to complete, process, and maintain required records, reports, and other information. Ability to develop and maintain effective communications with school and district employees, the school principal, and the general public. Ability to operate general office equipment such as a computer, calculator, copier, etc. Working Conditions: School and outdoor environment with significant exposure to environmental conditions. Requires ability to work under a degree of stress related to duties that require considerable attention and working with students. Physical demands are restricted to school activities requiring movement/lifting items weighing up to 25 pounds. Occasional local travel required; occasional overnight travel required. Responsibility: Assists in the supervision of school staff and students. TERM OF EMPLOYMENT: The terms of employment detailed in this job description are based on full time employment during an entire school year. Conditions of employment are adjusted for part time employees or individuals who are hired for less than an entire school year.
