FOR THIS TYPE OF EMPLOYMENT, STATE LAW REQUIRES A STATE AND NATIONAL CRIMINAL HISTORY BACKGROUND CHECK AND A CHILD ABUSE/NEGLECT (CAN) CHECK AS A CONDITION OF EMPLOYMENT.

Position Title: ATHLETIC TRAINER

Responsible To: Principal, Athletic Director

Basic Function: Provides care for athletic injuries. Coordinates efforts with team physicians, Frankfort Regional Medical Center and the Rehab Center to provide therapeutic rehabilitation in an attempt to expedite the athlete's return to competition while keeping the student's mental and physical welfare as the top priority.

Performance Responsibilities:

* Responsible for giving basic instruction to athletic staff members in the prevention and care of injuries.

* Responsible for training and supervising student athletic trainers. Also responsible for scheduling student trainers for athletic contests and practices.

* Responsible for referring athletic injuries to physicians for diagnosis and/or treatment.

* Carries out appropriate instructions and treatment as directed by the athlete's physician.

* Develops and supervises appropriate rehabilitation programs for athletes under the direction of the physician and refers to formal physical therapy as needed.

* Assists and advises the coaching staff regarding injury prevention, conditioning programs, and selection, care and fitting of protective equipment.

* Responsible for the treatment and supervision of treatment for all athletic injuries and conditions.

* Responsible for the organization, inventory and requisition of all training room supplies. Requisitions for medical equipment and/or supplies must be submitted to the Athletic Administrator. Additionally, the trainer will submit an annual budget for all first aid and medical supplies for the year.

* Must be present and/or available at all home varsity events. When there are conflicts time will be divided at the discretion of the Athletic Director. As time permits attendance at JV and freshman games is recommended.

* Shall be available in athletic training room after school each day to treat athletic injuries.

* Shall work with local physicians and hospital staff to schedule physicals for all athletes.

* Responsibilities will extend to providing athletic training supervision at all other major home events, district tournaments, regional tournaments, etc. when the athletic trainer's team is playing. In the event that extra coverage is needed at major home events, district tournaments, regional tournaments, etc. and the host athletic trainers team is not playing the pay will be as follows: $40/game - football, $25/game - baseball, basketball, soccer, softball, volleyball, $10/hour - cheerleading, cross country, golf, swimming, tennis, track, wrestling.

* Responsible for the care and cleanliness of the training room.

* Shall test heat and humidity during summer and fall practices and make appropriate practice recommendations as specified by KHSAA.

* Responsible for reporting all injuries to the athletic office on the proper forms and keeping an annual record of athletic injuries. Responsible for completing athletic injury reports, using the established tracking tools, and providing those to the Director of Rehabilitation Services at Frankfort Regional Medical Center. Responsible for attending meetings with the Director of Rehabilitation Services at Frankfort Regional Medical Center.

* Shall perform all other duties assigned by the Athletic Director.

Ability to:

* Skill in using tact, discretion, initiative and independent judgement within established guidelines.

* Skill in organizing work, setting priorities, meeting critical deadlines and following up on assignments.

* Skill in communicating clearly and effectively, orally and in writing.

* Ability to work collaboratively with a broad and diverse population of students, families, peers and colleagues.

* Knowledge and training in first aid procedures should be required for handling athletic injuries

* Must be able to work within various degrees of noise, temperature and air quality. Work surfaces will vary from concrete, grass, hardwood floors, etc. Job requirements require both indoor and outdoor assignments.

* Must be able to stand for long periods of time, have good mobility skills and be able to walk long distances.

Minimum Qualifications:

* Bachelor's Degree

* NATABOC Certification

Terms of Employment:

Compensation established by board approved classified salary schedule each year. Contract is issued annually.

Evaluation:

Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of board policy for classified personnel.
