DescriptionThe Associated Students of CSU, Chico is recruiting for Audiovisual Technical Assistant. This is a full-time, full-year (2080 hours), non-exempt position. The pay rate is $21.23-$22.00/hr. The schedule is event driven, may include evening, weekend and holiday hours, and will frequently fluctuate; flexible availability is a must as the schedule is subject to change based on departmental needs. In the event the schedule qualifies for shift differential, the range of pay for all qualifying hours in the shift will be $22.58-$23.35/hr.The Associated Students (AS) is a comprehensive campus auxiliary corporation of CSU,Chico serving thousands of students, faculty, staff and community members through myriad student programs, services and business enterprises. With an annual budget of more than $21M, the AS operates residential and retail dining services, the Bell Memorial Union, the Wildcat Recreation Center (WREC), and administers the contract for the Wildcat Store (bookstore). Additionally, the AS offers a wide variety of services and programs such as: CAVE (Community Action Volunteers in Education), Child Development Lab, Adventure Outings, Recycling, Sustainability and student government. Applications will be reviewed upon receipt.AUDIOVISUAL TECHNICAL ASSISTANTSUMMARYUnder direction of the Audiovisual Technical Manager, provides audiovisual technical support services for the Associated Students. Ability and willingness to work a flexible schedule including evenings, weekends and during holiday breaks is required.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Assists in the planning, set-up, troubleshooting, operation, supervision, and cleanup of audiovisual equipment including portable sound systems, theatrical sound and lighting, video projection, rigging, electrical, draperies, and all other technical aspects of events in the Bell Memorial Union.
  • May also deliver, set-up and operate equipment and/or stages at other campus locations (i.e. Trinity Commons, Glenn Lawn, WREC, stadium, etc.)
  • Directs the work of student employees in the absence of the Audiovisual Technical Manager. Trains student employees as required. Assists in developing and revising technical training manuals, policies and procedures. Assists in developing student work schedules. May provide input in the selection and evaluation of student employees.
  • Assists in the development and implementation of an on-going effective preventative maintenance plan for all equipment.
  • Enforces security and safety regulations involving all theatrical equipment.
  • Operate and troubleshoot a variety of equipment including electrical and lighting equipment, following safety protocols.
  • Assists in insuring proper inventory and availability of equipment and supplies, and safe, organized and secure storage of equipment.
  • In the absence of the Audiovisual Technical Manager, supervises the student technical team to ensure the smooth operation of the lighting, sound, video, and other technical aspects of a program or event.
  • Provides excellent customer service in a courteous and professional manner.
  • Represents Associated Students in contact with the campus community, the public, and other organizations.
  • Other duties may be assigned.
POSITIONS DIRECTLY SUPERVISEDIn the absence of Audiovisual Technical Manager, up to ten (10) student assistantsTYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONSWork is performed in building and outdoor environments; exposure to dust, dirt, heat, moisture, outdoor elements, hot equipment, electrical equipment, and highly sensitive electronics. Work at heights up to 25 feet. Routine contact with staff and the campus community.TYPICAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTSReasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.Manual dexterity and eye-hand coordination; verbal and written communication; move throughout the building sometimes in small spaces; reach for tools and supplies; ability to safely and correctly use hand tools; use of motorized vehicles; stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and climb; must be able to push, pull, lift and move objects weighing up to 50 lbs unassisted and 75+ lbs with assistance. Ability to move throughout and between different departments and facilities in the organization.TRAVEL REQUIREMENTSNoneKNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIREMENTS
  • Experience in technical production of sound, video and lighting for live events and performances.
  • Experience with professional sound equipment including analog and digital audio mixers, wired and wireless microphones, PA speakers and sound systems.
  • Experience with professional lighting equipment including lighting consoles, networking, DMX cabling, and conventional, LED and moving light fixtures.
  • Experience with video equipment, including video switchers, PTZ cameras and controllers, video cabling and convertors, lighting for video, hybrid/virtual conference setups, and projectors.
  • Experience with other event materials and tools such as aerial lifts, stage rigging, mobile stage risers, cable covers, pipe and drape, stage curtains, and projector screens.
  • Working knowledge of concert sound system design, setup, and mixing.
  • Experience planning out electrical needs for temporary event setups.
  • Experience working with light, sound and stage plots.
  • Experience troubleshooting computers, software, and internet connectivity.
  • Experience using software such as QLab, Premiere Pro, Logic Pro, Notion, Zoom, PowerPoint, Google Slides, Canva, and Spotify.
  • Supervision and training fundamentals.
  • Ability to work calmly and effectively with production deadlines under stress.
  • Experience with house and stage management.
  • Safe working standards and practices.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.
  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships with the campus community, co-workers, public, and those contacted during the course of work.
  • Learn and use event reservation software programs.
  • Learn and operate Midas M32 and Allen & Heath SQ5 concert sound mixers and ETC Eos Ion Xe lighting console.
  • Learn and operate aerial Genie lifts.
  • Drive truck or other vehicle.
MINIMUM EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
  • Six (6) months of professional level hands-on sound, lighting or audiovisual experience.
  • Supervisory experience in technical theatre, concert technical production, or live video production.
PREFERRED REQUIREMENTSBachelor's degree in related fieldSPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Possession of, or ability to obtain within 3 months of employment. a current and valid California Driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
  • Post-offer, pre-employment physical.
  • Satisfactory completion of a background check (including a criminal records check) is required for employment. Associated Students will make a conditional offer of employment which may be rescinded if the background check reveals any disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information.
