The Automation Engineer will be responsible for managing, engineering, direct digital controls (DDC) support for campus for card access, temperature controls, lighting controls, snow melt systems, and utility monitoring.
This position will diagnose and troubleshoot building automation system and network issues to ensure campus systems are running at peak efficiency. Will work closely with engineering, consultants, information technology technicians, general contractors, and trades technicians. Be responsible for hiring, coordinating and directing sub-contractors on commercial construction applications.
Education and Experience
* Associates Degree with related HVAC knowledge OR five (5) plus years of practical experience in construction installation of HVAC DDC control systems.
* Ability to demonstrate a solid mechanical aptitude with climate control and Building Automation systems.
* Be able to demonstrate computer proficiencies with e-mail, Microsoft Office Suite, Continuum, Automated Logic, or Siemens Desigo.
* The ability to lead and direct projects while continuing to support and provide staff development.
Skills and Knowledge
* Experience working with the DDC Controls Systems.
* Familiarity with concepts and theories relating to HVAC and lighting control.
* Strong communication, problem solving, analytical, independent thinking, judgment and decision making skills.
* Proficiency in all Microsoft Office programs.
* Knowledge and experience working with low voltage electricity.
* Knowledge of various communication protocols such as BACnet, Modbus, LonWorks or others as they are developed.
* Ability to understand and analyze project requirements and translate into specifications and programming deliverables.
* Knowledge of various control programming protocols.
* Knowledge of databases.
Responsibilities
* Design, develop, program, and implement application and database solutions for the campus building automation system(s) to include, HVAC, Lighting, Snowmelt, and Card Access Systems.
* Manage, engineer, and estimate Direct Digital Control (DDC) projects on campus for Orange Automation. Project Management includes: campus Card Access, temperature controls, lighting controls, utility monitoring and RS485 network & BacNet integration as well as infrastructure design. Engineering duties include: Proper valve sizing for flow, GPM, and CV. Damper selection, types and sizing of actuators both electronic and pneumatic. Proper power supply sizing for both AC and DC applications.
* Design produce, test, implement and maintain systems under various application software languages, platforms and protocols to support the systems. Provide advanced troubleshooting support for the Campus DDC/HVAC, lighting, and card access system via automation/web programming.
* Coordinate and schedule necessary resources for a support with University departments and outside vendors to support existing control systems. (Logistics Management)
* Train University staff and building occupants on projects implemented.
