  • Provides assistance in the diagnosis and repair of City vehicles and equipment.
  • Repairs and provides assistance in repairs of defective vehicle and equipment components, including lighting systems, brake systems, audio equipment and other malfunctioning components.
  • Completes work order for each vehicle and unit serviced, listing items replaced and materials used; notifies supervisor of repair and replacement requirements.
  • Performs oil changes, lubrications and maintenance checks on vehicles and equipment.
  • Performs vehicle and parts pickup and delivery functions.
  • Operates a City pool automobile in the performance of essential job functions.
  • Minimum Qualifications, Additional Requirements and Supervisory Responsibilities MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS & ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTSMinimum Qualifications and Additional RequirementsThese knowledge, skills, and abilities are usually, although not always, acquired through completion of a high school or vocational-technical school course in automotive mechanics and one (1) year of experience as an automotive mechanic or mechanic assistant. Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered.ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
    • Must possess a valid Arkansas Class D (Non-Commercial Vehicle) Driver's License before employment and maintain licensure for the duration of employment in this position.
    • Must possess the tools required for this position by the Department of Fleet Services within 6 months of employment and maintain required tools in working condition for the duration of employment in this position.

  • Orders repair parts and materials required for shop repairs from the Fleet Department Parts Storeroom.
  • Provides assistance with brake replacements, suspension assemblies and front and rear wheel alignment procedures.
  • Sharpens, repairs, and replaces cutting edges on mowing and cutting machinery.
  • Prepares new vehicles and equipment for service by installing decals, wiring ancillary equipment, and mounting add-on equipment.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

    • Knowledge of the operation and maintenance principles of vehicles and/or machinery.
    • Familiarity with occupational hazards and safety precautions of automotive and related equipment.
    • Skill in the care and use of hand and power tools.
    • Skill in the use of diagnostic and mechanical adjustment equipment.
    • Skill in the operation of automatic transmission automobiles.
    • Ability to assist in the diagnosis of vehicle malfunctions.
    • Ability to keep accurate records and complete work orders.
    • Ability to read and write.
    • Ability to operate various types of light vehicles and equipment.
    • Ability to withstand exposure to adverse weather conditions.
    • Ability to note defects, damage, and wear in vehicle systems and automotive/equipment components.
    • Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
    • Ability to lift, push, pull or carry forty (40) pounds or more in the performance of essential job functions.
    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS - REPRESENTATIVE OF THOSE REQUIRED TO PERFORM THE JOBPre-Employment Screenings Required Before Employment Background Check, Motor Vehicle Report Check, non uniform medical and drug alcoholRegular part-time employees who work 1,500 hours shall receive six (6) days of Sick Leave upon the completion of the 1,500 hours. If unused, this Sick Leave shall be allowed to accumulate to a maximum of fifteen (15) days (120 hours). Regular, full-time non-probationary employees who transfer to Regular, part-time positions will receive credit for the previous year's service for purposes of Sick Leave accrual and may carry over accrued Sick Leave accrual up to the maximum noted above.Regular part-time employees who were in pay status (vacation, sick leave, or actual hours worked) for at least 1,500 hours during the year shall receive the following Vacation Leave:Up to 10 years of service (40 hrs.) = 5 days per year10 years or more (60 hrs.) = 7-1/2 days per year01 Do you possess or will you be able to obtain a valid Arkansas Class D (Non-Commercial Vehicle) Driver's License prior to employment?
