Job Description

Assistant Vice President, Underwriting Manager - Seneca Specialty Package, Asian National Division

Summary:

Directly manages a team of underwriters within Seneca's New York City Branch Office that is focused on Asian American business. Collaborates with Senior Underwriting Leadership Team to determine, create, and implement underwriting tactics. Is accountable for personnel, performance appraisals, new business acquisition, and profit & loss. Key contributor in budgeting, marketing, underwriting, training and administration functions. Maintains customer service through optimizing the effectiveness of current organizational processes and procedures. Establishes and sustains important agency connections via ongoing marketing efforts, customer support initiatives, and involvement in industry functions. This position requires a great deal of underwriting acumen and relationship management skills.

Responsibilities:

* Directly manages a team of underwriters

* Lines of business managed include: primary property, general liability, H&NO auto, umbrella, workers compensation

* Meets profitability, retention, and written premium goals determined by the branch

* Makes independent decisions within underwriting letter of authority. Handles and elevates team referrals as appropriate

* Conducts monthly underwriting audits for team members

* Develops annual financial, operational, marketing, and developmental goals for each team member, and supports team in achieving goals

* Coaches and develops team members by providing regular feedback and coordinating training and career development opportunities

* Holds underwriters accountable for job functions

* Reviews and completes management reports

* Analyzes broker profitability and manages broker base

* Has an in-depth knowledge of branch's products and services

* Can clearly articulate Seneca's value proposition and underwriting appetite

* Participates in training and initiatives to develop knowledge base

* Attends industry events and conferences related to Asian Insurance community.

* May take part in projects

* Travel - up to 20%

* Other duties as assigned

Requirements:

* Bachelor's degree and 10+ years of P&C underwriting experience

* Prior supervisory or management experience preferred

* Knowledge of commercial insurance products

* Strong communication and analytical skills to pursue new business and manager overall relationships

* Excellent organizational and time management skills

* Abidance to branch policies and procedures, including authority levels, to comply with Seneca's risk control procedures

* Proficiency in software needed to succeed

* Location: New York, NY Hybrid arrangement of 3 days in office, two remote.

The annualized base pay for the advertised position, located in the specified area, ranges from a minimum of $144,500 to a maximum of $212,000. The actual compensation is determined by various factors, including but not limited to the market pay for the jobs at each level, the responsibilities and skills required for each job, and the employee's contribution (performance) in that role. To be considered within market range, a salary is at or above the minimum of the range. You may also have the opportunity to participate in discretionary equity (stock) based compensation and/or performance-based variable pay programs.
