Job DescriptionSCOPEMajor Accounts Excess Casualty writes approximately $1B in Gross Written Premium annually. There are four segments: National, Energy, Real Estate and Real Estate Programs. The Home Office Referral team is responsible for reviewing accounts that fall outside the authority of the field and to act as an additional resource to Segment Leaders during times of high volume. They must be able to balance the top line and the bottom line by preventing an underwriter from putting out the wrong quote while enabling them to competitively write business. This team is also responsible guideline development, administering multinational policies, overseeing filings and compliance requirements, administering corporate audits, providing general field training, and assisting with strategy development with a goal of maintaining the profitability of the book and improving underwriting processes.KEY OBJECTIVEThis position will be responsible for efficiently handling referrals for Major Accounts Excess Casualty and assisting in Home Office functions such as writing guidelines, participating and leading some training, filing forms, conducting audits, aggregating audit findings and responding to ad hoc requests. This will include interaction with Claims, Actuarial, Corporate Underwriting, Segment Leaders and Executive Vice President of Excess Casualty.MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIESIn addition to referrals, this position is responsible for:
  • Referrals- efficiently and effectively handling referrals for assigned regions and segments.
  • Training and Mentoring - developed training based on emerging trends, audit findings, guidelines, and underwriting processes. This role will also require individual mentoring to help improve the underwriting acumen of field underwriters.
  • Guidelines and Bulletins- develop and maintain divisional guidelines, bulletins and internal databases.
  • Filings - assist in working with internal departments for submitting and monitoring new state filings for rates and forms.
  • Manuscripts - act as a coverage approver in LASER system for manuscripts within your authority. Work directly with Legal on complex endorsements.
  • Audits - lead regional audits of our underwriters, publish final reports and follow up on all outstanding items. Also monitor Self Audits performed monthly on individuals and assist in preparing an analysis summary.
  • Multinational/ Foreign Local Policies - assist in maintaining best practices and issuing/administering foreign companion policies.
  • Actuarial - interact with Actuarial to understand the overall profitability and approvals on individual accounts as well as departmental goals to enhance profitability.
  • Client Meetings- attend client and broker meetings as needed, acting as a Subject Matter Expert.
  • Ad Hoc Projects - Individual projects may be arise and require Home Office involvement.
QualificationsMINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
  • College Degree with a minimum of 7 years of experience underwriting Umbrella/ Excess business. Large account experience is preferred.

The pay range for the role is $151,900 to $258,100. The specific offer will depend on an applicant's skills and other factors.
