Flex Spending accounts, Teladoc, life insurance, accidental death, Long Term Disability, Aflac, and 401K which SCIT matches up to 4%.Prescription plan with free fills on most generic brands when using our Cardinal Pharmacy.Position Summary:Under the supervision of the Chief Judge, ensure safety in the courthouse.All Tribal Court staff must adhere to mandated reporting laws.This is a partially grant funded position.Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Conduct security searches of court users and temporarily seize contraband.
  • Provide a supportive environment for court users.
  • Develop rapport and a professional relationship, while maintaining appropriate ethical boundaries with court users.
  • Maintain safety and peaceful decorum of the courthouse.
  • Ensure personal safety of judges/magistrate and court personnel.
  • Ensure the confidentiality of closed proceedings by removing all unauthorized persons from the courthouse.
  • Assist the judge/magistrate and clerks as needed in court proceedings including retrieving and sequestering juror and witnesses, safeguarding evidence, distributing papers and evidence in the courtroom.
  • Conduct full view drug screens and PBT of probationers and HTW/JHTW participants.
  • Subdue individuals using necessary force when appropriate, including deadly force, when necessary to maintain safety and security in the courthouse.
  • Learn emergency policies and procedures and participate and document required safety drills.
  • Mediate disputes.
  • Prepare professionally written documents and present testimony in court.
  • Utilize two-way radio to hear and respond to radio communications, voice instructions and/or commands under a variety of working situations.
  • Adhere to client confidentiality and comply with Tribal Court/HTW policies and federal regulations under the Privacy rules of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).
  • Provide excellent customer service for all internal and external customers of the operations at all times. Provide solutions for customer concerns and continually focus on customer service as our top priority.
  • Must maintain strict confidentiality and present a positive, professional demeanor and image at all times.

  • Contacts are with staff, youth, adults, families, the public, social services, legal systems and other agencies. Must be able to handle difficult situations with patience, kindness, and respect.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • At least 18 years of age.
  • Must be familiar with native community and have knowledge of contemporary and traditional native lifestyles.
  • Must not have criminal history that would prevent applicant from acquiring any certification or qualification required.
  • Must be able to pass drug screening.
  • Must be able to pass background check to meet the employment eligibility requirements as they pertain to the position.
  • Must be able to effectively communicate and have good computer skills.
Desired Qualifications:
  • Prior security, criminal justice, or court related experience.
License, Certification, or Special Requirements:
  • Ability to obtain annual HIPAA training and certification.
  • Ability to obtain LEIN training and certification within six months.
  • Ability to obtain CPR and First Aid certification within six months.
  • Valid Michigan license to carry a concealed pistol, Taser and Oleoresin Capsicum spray.
  • Ability to obtain blood borne pathogen certification within six months.
  • Native American preference shall apply to all positions.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of modern office practices, procedures, and equipment.
  • Knowledge of business English, proper spelling, grammar, punctuation, and basic arithmetic.
  • Knowledge of courtroom practices and procedures.
  • Skill in physically subduing individuals in the courtroom or during transport.
  • Skill in operating business computers and office machines, including in a Windows environment, specifically Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.

Physical Demands:
