You will also maintain a clean and well-stocked workspace and dining area, update displays, and continuously expand your knowledge of food, beverage and tobacco quality controls, preparation methods, and presentations.To succeed as a barista, you should be committed to providing customers with excellent service. You should be positive, friendly, knowledgeable and polite.Essential Duties and Responsibilities of the Barista:
- Welcoming customers, informing them about specials or new items, answering questions, and accepting orders and payments.
- Preparing foods, such as sandwiches or baked goods, and grinding and blending coffee beans, brewing coffee and tea, and serving items to customers.
- Packaging food and beverages for sale.
- Selling coffee, tea blends and brewing equipment, highlighting the differences between items and educating customers about brewing methods.
- Knowledge in various tobacco products
- Cleaning and restocking work and dining areas, emptying trash, and sanitizing equipment and utensils.
- Learning about brewing methods, beverages blends, food preparation, and presentation techniques to improve food and beverage quality.
- Updating signage and displays to inform, and attract, customers.
- Taking nightly inventory and replenishing items in display cases, at tables, or behind the counter.
- Working as part of a fun, high-energy team.
- Adhering to all food safety regulations and quality controls.
- Other duties, as assigned.
Education and Experience:
- All applicants must be 18 years of age or older.
- High School Diploma or GED, preferred.
- Six months' experience in the barista field (strongly preferred)
- Strong retail operations knowledge, including retail POS systems, merchandising, and customer service.
Requirements:
- Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services. This includes customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction.
- Experience in food and beverage preparation.
- Training and willingness to continue learning regarding food and beverage preparation.
- Giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, and asking questions as appropriate.
- Effective communication; written, verbal, and interpersonal skills.
- Basic computer and software experience using MS Office products.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
- Organized and professional. Demonstrates exceptional attention to detail.
- Ability to work under pressure/ able to diffuse tense situations with unhappy customers.
- Regularly required to stand, walk, talk and hear.
- Regularly required to lift and / or move items up to 30 pounds.
- All applicants must be at least 18 years of age with no prior felony offenses.
- Must pass extensive criminal background check and oral drug screening.
