Rudolf Steiner School seeks experienced head and assistant coaches for the winter sports season for Girls and Boys Middle School and Varsity basketball. The head coach and assistant coach report to the Athletics Director.Qualified candidates must have previous coaching and/or playing experience, have a positive coaching style, value teamwork and sportsmanship and have a strong understanding of the sport.Coaches must exhibit mastery and knowledge in their sport. Effective planning, instructional skills and the ability to set expectations, motivate and discipline student-athletes are essential components of the job. More specifically, Head coaches are expected to: Continually pursue increased knowledge of their sport and coaching techniques through participation in a variety of educational and professional development activities.Formulate and implement daily practice plans that demonstrate a high amount of time on task, that are progressive, are congruent with team and individual ability, and are consistent with sound conditioning principles. Instruct student-athletes in the skills and strategies necessary to maximize performance.Establish general expectations for participation. Appropriately discipline student-athletes when expectations are not met or rules are broken.This position will require travel with teams and overnight stays for tournaments. This is a seasonal stipend paid position.Rudolf Steiner School, an independent nursery to 12 school and the first Waldorf School in North America, is located on Manhattan's Upper East Side. DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES include:
  • Assure all required equipment is taken to practice/games and brought back to the school.
  • Take daily attendance and email or text daily attendance reports to the Athletic Director.
  • Assure all student athletes travel together to practice/game facilities and back, unless given permission by student athletes' parents.
QUALIFICATIONSThe successful candidate will demonstrate:
  • Knowledge and experience in the sport
  • Good communication skills
  • Knowledge of NYC boroughs for travel on public transportation
  • CPR/First Aid/AED certification required
  • Interest in and appreciation for Waldorf Education
  • Versatility, enthusiasm, punctuality, creativity
