Under general supervision, to coordinate specified public health programs and/or special projects as well as assist families with accessing different health and social services; and to do related work as required. Examples of Important and Essential Duties(The following is used as a partial description and is not restrictive as to duties required)Plans, develops, and implements program directives including workplans and performance measures and conducts day to day operations as prescribed in assigned programs; essential duties can also include presentations to groups, agencies, and individuals; establishes and maintains liaisons between the assigned Public Health Department Programs and other public and private agencies, community organizations, and professional groups; provides consultation and guidance to individuals and community groups; implements strategies to raise awareness of health issues; contacts community agencies and groups to promote health programs; assists in the planning and development of community events to promote health programs; prepares, coordinates, schedules and conducts presentations before school groups, community groups and government agencies; develops and works with various citizen advisory groups/coalitions; gathers, evaluates and completes quarterly, annual and final reports; collaborates with surrounding counties and communities on assigned program issues; participates in assessing community health needs and resources; assists in writing proposals including program goals and budgets; assists in the preparation of compliance /progress reports on the grants, work plans, and budgets; assists on administrative and fiscal functions for assigned programs; assists in creation and monitoring of assigned program related contracts and subcontracts, grants and other funding/contractual activities. Desirable QualificationsKnowledge of:Theories, principles, methods, techniques of program and/or project coordinationUnderstanding of public health systems, including prevention, community engagement, service delivery, and healthcare systems.How Public Health systems, community based organizations, and other health systems collaborate to improve population health. Social, economic, cultural and other issues impacting program area.Public health statistical and survey methods.How to engage communities and identify community resources.Basic Public Health Program funding principles.Ability to:Build coalitions among groups with differing needs and objectives.Assist in the development of health education programs for community groups, agencies and the public. Answer a variety of questions related to assigned department programsMake referrals to appropriate agencies and social service programs.Communicate effectively verbally and in writing. Communicate with individuals from diverse socio- economic and cultural backgrounds.Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with a variety of individuals and groups.Effectively represent Health and Human Services Department, Public Health in contacts with the public, community organizations, and other government agencies. Assist in planning, and scheduling of staff in assigned programs and servicesAssist with planning, organizing, coordinating and implementing assigned public health programs.Demonstrate excellent organizational skills.Maintain accurate records and files through a variety of methods including program specific electronic systems.TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:Any combination of training and experience which would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required knowledge and abilities would be:HEALTH PROGRAM COORDINATOR ITwo (2) years of experience as a program or project coordinator in public health or other related field.ORCompletion of coursework for an Associate Degree in public health, community health, health science, or other related field and one year (1) of project or program coordination OR Two (2) years' experience coordinating day-to day operations in one or more public health programs ORGraduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree in public health or related field.Special Requirements:Possession of or ability to obtain a valid California Driver's License.HEALTH PROGRAM COORDINATOR II Three (3) years of experience as a program or project coordinator in public health or other related field.ORCompletion of coursework for an Associate Degree in public health, community health, health science, or other related field and two (2) years' of project or program coordination ORThree (3) years' experience coordinating day-to day operations in one or more public health programsORGraduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree in public health or related field.ANDOne year of experience as a Health Program Coordinator I or equivalent.Special Requirements:Possession of or ability to obtain a valid California Driver's License.
