Job Description / Essential Elements: EAST SIDE UNION HIGH SCHOOL DISTRICT SPECIAL EDUCATION - BEHAVIOR SPECIALIST Articulation with Feeder School Districts •Attend high profile, eighth grade student transition IEP's for the Autistic/Aspergers, ED and MR programs as needed if there are behavioral concerns. Staff Support •Support and/or mentor general and special education teachers as well as their •Para-educators. •Support and/or consult with school administrators. Department Meetings •Attend school department meetings upon request. •Attend weekly Program/Behavior Specialists meetings. Professional Development •Behavior Specialist will arrange for and/or provide professional development training in the area of writing behaviors into the IEP, to include goals and objectives. •Behavior Specialist will arrange for and/or provide professional development training in classroom behavior management, behavioral documentation and behavior support plan development. •Participate in all required ESUHSD professional development activities. •Attend assigned task force meetings •Provide therapeutic crisis intervention training (strategies to avoid escalating behavior and teaching coping skills) Both behaviorists are certified trainers from Cornell University •Provide Hughes Bill Training (legal procedures for addressing the behavior issues with special education students). Program Management •Review case management notebooks relevant to assigned cases. •Make program placement recommendations to the IEP team. •Observe and document student behavior, generating summary report with annotated data to case manager. •Attend lEPs as needed •Collaborate with case managers to plan, coordinate and evaluate effectiveness of strategies. Other Activities •Act as a student advocate •Consult with SSTMST and Section 504 teams as needed. •Monitor for district, state and federal compliance. •Assist in the investigation and preparation of responses to CDE complaints. •Keep current with best practices through current training and updates of previous training. •Review IEPs for compliance and final submission into CASEMIS •Other duties that revolve around behavior issues •Participate in specific training related to TCI and Hughes BillRequirements / QualificationsComplete online application, appropriate secondary Education Specialist Credential, transcripts, CBEST, letter of introduction, Resume, letters of recommendation. Comments and Other Information**Newly hired unit members will receive full credit for relevant prior verified contractual experience.** Bilingual candidates preferred
