The Role

The Behavior Technician implements the behavior analysis educational and treatment programs of individual children in the classroom under the direction of the Director of Special Education, Director of Clinical and Educational Services, classroom teacher, or designated Behavior Analyst. The behavior technician collects data within individual child measurement systems and participates in data management. The classroom behavior technician will participate as a member of student treatment teams, in clinics, attend training, and help make lesson materials.

Essential Work Duties and Responsibilities

* Protect the rights and dignities of individuals with developmental disabilities and extend these rights and dignities to family members or guardians.

* Upholds and complies with all safety programs and policies to maintain a safe work environment for employees, consumers, family members, and visitors.

* Commits to organizational quality initiatives by participating in programs that assure quality improvements and team processes.

* Implement instructional strategies consistently and accurately.

* Implements behavioral measurement systems and collects data.

* Communicate any medical, physical, or other changes in student status to the teacher, BA, and nursing staff.

* Implement positive, supportive, and proactive teaching programs at all times.

* Coordinate classroom activities when the Classroom Teacher is absent, as designated by the Special Education Director, Program Director, or Classroom Teacher.

* Works as part of a team to support all students, classrooms, and staff to promote a safe and enriched learning environment.

* Documents any/all medical/physical injuries/incidents.

* Responsible for any/all evacuation procedures.

* Responsible for all aspects of the childs educational program, including self-care and toileting skills, to promote the autonomy and dignity of students.

* Implement child educational programs in inclusive settings in public education or other education environments.

* Assist with transitions, inclusion opportunities for students, and special activities.

* Assist with the generalization of skills to the community and various settings.

* Responsible for performing other duties and job assignments as required by the Director, BA, and Classroom Teacher.

Experience & Skills

* Associates degree or 60 college credits, or TA/Paraprofessional certification.

* Bachelors degree preferred.

* Experience working with children in a teaching capacity is preferred.

* Must have valid drivers license, automobile insurance, and own vehicle to be used as directed and when needed for transport.

Physical Requirements

Ability to deal with the broad range of needs presented by children with autism, including significant problem behaviors. Work will often include sitting in small chairs or on the floor and require rapid movement (sometimes running) to address the safety and teaching needs of the children. Must be able to work with children in such a way as to involve physical contact (particularly when there is a child safety need). Employees must achieve certification in the crisis management system utilized by the program within the timeline established by the program.
