As part of clinical training, provides psychoeducation, assessment, intervention strategies, skill training, and develop patient-centered psychotherapy treatment plans for patients. The Behavioral Health Associate also assists primary health care providers in detecting at risk patients, recognizing and treating mental health conditions, and assesses the clinical status of patients to determine the most appropriate level of care.Responsibilities:
- Assist primary care providers in recognizing signs and symptoms of mental disorders as well as the impact of Social Determinants of Health.
- Provide consultation to appropriate clinic staff and providers on Adverse Childhood Experiences and all other behavioral health issues
- Assess the clinical status of patients referred by primary health care providers and triage to the appropriate resource.
- Provide assessment, consultation, and intervention for patients with chronic psychological symptoms and/or health chronic medical conditions.
- Work with primary care team to treat and manage patients with chronic psychological symptoms and/or chronic medical conditions efficiently and effectively.
- Assist with behavioral health diagnosis and stigma reduction by helping to increase primary care provider comfort with behavioral health conditions and associated treatment.
- Assist in the detection of “at risk” patients and development of plans to prevent further psychological or physical deterioration.
- Develop integrated patient care plans with primary care team.
- Educate patients, families, and staff about care, prevention, and integrated treatment and whole person health enhancing techniques.
- Complete timely and appropriate documentation in the Electronic Health Record (EHR) system, including but not limited to contact logs, progress notes and evaluation notes.
- Follow established guidelines for use and/or disclosure of protected health information (PHI).
- Refer and bridge care for patients with issues that cannot be addressed in the primary care setting.
- Participate in group medical visits for primary care topics such as smoking cessation, obesity, chronic pain management as well as behavioral health topics such as anxiety and depression.
- Help develop and participate in needed health promotion programs.
- Attend and participate in departmental and organizational meetings, as required.
- Identify problems related to patient services and make recommendations for improvement.
- Participate in behavioral health quality improvement activities.

Qualifications:
- Master's degree in Social Work, Marital and Family Therapy or PhD / PsyD in Psychology from an accredited program.
- At least two (2) years' experience providing psychotherapy (CBT based models preferred) with children, adults and adolescents.
- Current registration as ASW/AMFT with the California Board of Behavioral Sciences or current registration with the California Board of Psychology.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification for Healthcare Providers
- Active Registration with the BBS as a pre-licensed ASW or AMFT or Active Registration with the Board of Psychology as post-doctoral pre-licensed psychologist
- Computer proficiency, particularly with Electronic Health/Medical Record systems and the Microsoft Office suite, including Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bilingual in English and Spanish (may be required at some clinics).
- Experience providing health psychology services such as smoking cessation, weight management, stress management, substance abuse disorders, or work with chronically medically ill patients.
- Understanding of trauma-informed care approaches and therapies, Adverse Childhood Experiences and their impact on brain development, suicide prevention and acute crisis assessment/intervention.
- Interest in training in an integrated behavioral health model.

The pay range for this role is $66,560 - $88,000 on an annual basis.

Please keep in mind that the range mentioned above is the full base salary range for the role. Hiring at the maximum of the range would not be typical to allow for future and continued salary growth.
