The Finance Coordinator will play a critical role in managing and tracking the financial performance of engineering projects, ensuring accuracy in billing, reporting, and financial analysis. This position requires a thorough understanding of project accounting within a consulting engineering environment, including contract management, cost control, and revenue recognition.Key Responsibilities:
- Project Financial Management:
- Manage the financial aspects of engineering projects, including budgeting, forecasting, and cost tracking.
- Monitor project financial performance, identifying variances and providing regular financial reports to project managers and senior management.
- Ensure accurate and timely billing of clients in accordance with contract terms, including time and materials, fixed fee, and percentage of completion contracts.
- Contract Administration:
- Review and interpret project contracts to ensure compliance with financial and contractual obligations.
- Assist in the preparation of project budgets and cost estimates in collaboration with project managers.
- Maintain detailed records of contract amendments, change orders, and other financial documentation.
- Revenue Recognition & Reporting:
- Perform revenue recognition calculations in accordance with accounting standards and company policies.
- Prepare monthly project financial reports, including profit and loss statements, cash flow projections, and work-in-progress reports.
- Assist in the preparation of quarterly and annual financial statements.
- Cost Control & Analysis:
- Monitor project expenditures to ensure they are within budget and aligned with project objectives.
- Analyze project costs, identifying opportunities for cost savings and efficiency improvements.
- Provide financial insights and recommendations to project managers to optimize project performance.
- Client Interaction:
- Serve as the primary financial point of contact for clients, addressing billing inquiries and resolving financial issues.
- Work closely with project managers and clients to ensure accurate and timely invoicing and payment collection.
- Compliance & Audit:
- Ensure compliance with company accounting policies, procedures, and relevant regulations.
- Assist in internal and external audits, providing necessary documentation and explanations.
Qualifications:
- Associate's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in project accounting.
- Strong understanding of accounting principles, financial reporting, and project cost management.
- Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., Deltek, SAP, QuickBooks) and advanced Excel skills.
- Excellent analytical skills with attention to detail.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with project teams and clients.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Desired Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- Experience working within the AEC industry.
