Job Title: Boatman and Athletic Facilities SpecialistStatus: Non-Exempt, Full-Time, School YearDepartment: AthleticsReports to: Director of AthleticsNOTE:This description is intended to indicate the kinds of tasks and levels of work difficulty that will be required of positions that will be given this title and shall not be construed as declaring what the specific duties and responsibilities of any particular position shall be.It is not intended to limit or in any way modify the right of any supervisor to assign, direct, and control the work of employees supervised.The use of a particular expression or illustration describing duties shall not be held to exclude other duties not mentioned that are of similar kind of level or difficulty.Essential Duties & Responsibilities:•Prepares shells and motorboats for daily practice.•Performs preventative maintenance and adjustments on all rowing equipment including engines, launches, rowing shells, barges, oars, ergometers, cox-boxes, coaching megaphones, and related equipment at the boathouse to ensure the safety, speed, and effectiveness of the crew equipment.•Performs maintenance and repairs on launching/trailering motorboats, coach launches, winterizing motors, and transporting boats and motors for service.•Maintains necessary supplies and material for operation of the crew program including gasoline, towels, trainers' supplies, tools, spare parts, and equipment.•Coordinate logistics and work directly with repair companies to ensure appropriate registration, inspection, and maintenance for SPS boats and shells.•Plans equipment winterizing schedule and activity with head coaches.•Maintain trailer inspections, registrations, and service trailers as needed.•Coordinate races with the coaches, drive trailer and boats to races.•Coordinates loading and transportation of rowing shells for each event.•Supports competitive trips which includes the loading/unloading of trailer, assembly/disassembly of shells, and long-distance driving while pulling a trailer.•Register boats and trailers, including the shell trailer, and ensure that all lights work, and tires are in good condition.•Make an appointment with marine patrol to inspect before rowing season begins. Fire Extinguishers, life preservers, whistle and two oars that are all in good condition.•Maintain Coach Launches. Maintain fuels levels and keep the engine oil and gear oil at appropriate levels.•Maintain all aspects of rowing shell rigging according to the coach's specifications and requests. Changing out shoes as needed and maintaining the oars.•Maintain the cox box systems so that they are operational (batteries, cords, and speakers). Also includes two-way radios for the coaches and boatman, Maintain the bullhorns (electronic and manual) for each coach.•Winter maintenance: Installing ice eaters under each dock and the launch house.•Turn on roof heat trace systems on both the Halcyon and Shattuck sides of the boathouse.•In the spring before race weekends, construct 20'x20' red SPS tent with four tables.•On race days, ensure course markings are intact, ice for coolers, and be available for flag finish and recording race times.•Provide a work boat for Facilities and contractors if needed to perform their work.•Organize Alumni Rowing Day Event with coaches.•Henley and Worchester Regatta Preparations with coaches. Be available as mechanic, chauffer, and chaperone.•Winterize and store all coaches launches under cover.•Maintain and groom Cross Country trails year-round.•Maintain and groom indoor and outdoor turf-fields.•Line Painting for all athletic fields.•Maintain, organize, and repair athletic equipment.•Skate sharping, driving Zamboni during hockey season.•Inspect ice surfaces during hockey season.•Maintain, repair, and transport canoe's during the school year.•Wash and dry uniforms during the school year.Qualification Requirements: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Ability to communicate effectively to coaches and crew members.Mathematical Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to computerate, ratio, and percentages.Reasoning Skills: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
