We are currently hiring for a Jail Booking Technician who is responsible for the collection and limited verification of prisoner information necessary to record all commitments and discharges of persons delivered to the custody of the Weld County Jail on a 24 hour basis. You will enter and update information in a computer system, complete jail and court documents, and itemize and verify prisoner personal property inventory and cash or other negotiable instruments. The booking technician frequently provides or refers information about prisoners and prisoner activities within the jail.
Must be available for any of the three shifts
6:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.
11:00 a.m. - 9:30 p.m.
8:00 p.m. - 6:30 a.m.
Required to pass the pre-employment screening: assessment testing, oral board, background check, polygraph and drug screen.

Job Description

* Booking and release of prisoners.
* Review documents from officers, bondspersons and the courts daily for accuracy and completeness.
* Interview prisoners, arresting officers and other employees daily to obtain necessary information.
* Create and/or retrieve electronic and physical files daily in a high volume setting and accurately add or update file information.
* Compare information collected with independent and/or file documentation and reports discrepancies to the booking officers, daily for resolution to insure the accuracy of records and proper identification of prisoners.
* Accurately code and translate information daily from codes using code tables for reference.
* Accurately count money, deposit money and prepare checks and vouchers daily.
* Accurately complete an inventory of prisoner personal property daily.
* Work a shift as necessary to provide 365 day, 24 hour coverage.
* Ensure oral and written directives, policy and ordinances of Weld County and the Sheriff are consistently and uniformly applied and reflect actual practice and current operating needs.
* File alphabetically and/or chronologically daily to maintain an accurate criminal justice record.
* Answer telephone requests from the public and other agencies daily to provide public services and information concerning jail intake and release records.

Required Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
Education:
* High School Diploma or equivalent.
Required Experience:
* Three years experience in an increasingly responsible position in an office setting.
Or any equivalent combination of education and experience.
Preferred Experience:
Cash handling.
Data Entry
Typing.
Assessments will be required.
Required to pass the pre-employment screening: background check, polygraph and drug screen.
Reading and comprehension level sufficient to read and interpret Colorado Statutes, standard operating procedures, Sheriff's and county policy, order of the court and court documents and legal and court opinions.
Tattoos:
1. Tattoos may be displayed while on duty or representing the agency unless considered controversial, disrespectful, or offensive.
2. Tattoos, scarifications, and brandings on the face, or front of the neck, are not authorized while on duty or representing the agency.
* Modest hand tattoos are allowed, at the discretion of the Sheriff or designee.
* Modest neck tattoos not extending onto the front of the neck, beyond the carotid arteries, are allowed at the discretion of the Sheriff or designee.
Piercings:
1. Modest piercing are allowed.
2. Nostril is okay; septum, bridge, nasal Lang & rhino piercings are not allowed.
3. No more than one piercing is allowed to be displayed.
* Unusually large or obtrusive piercings are not allowed.
* Ring thickness of 18 gauge (1mm) or smaller and a ring diameter of 10mm or smaller is allowed.
* A stud size of 2mm or smaller is allowed.
Ear piercings
* Sworn personnel, only females are allowed to wear one pair of post style earrings, one in each lobe, while on duty.
Testing may be required for applicants who are selected to move forward in the hiring process.
Required to pass the following pre-employment screening: computer assessments, interview, background check, polygraph and drug screen.
* Knowledge of keyboarding and computer systems in an IBM environment to include data entry and word processing.
* Knowledge of modern office automation, general office equipment and office filing systems and other office procedures.
* Interpersonal communication skills to deal effectively with and persuade persons of differing backgrounds and behavior patterns in a wide range of settings.
* Group skills to collectively plan, problem-solve and perform effectively as a group member.
* Reference skills to locate accurate information quickly with minimal resource.
* Skill to accurately enter data into a computer at an equivalent speed of 35 to 45 words per minute for up to three to four hours.
* Skill to lift boxes weighing up to 20 pounds containing paper documents to file and retrieve criminal justice record information.
* Skill to ascend and descend a three step ladder to file documents located on shelving above head.
* Skill to converse with inmates and observe them to verify their identity and perform data entry.
* Skill to read handwritten and typed documents, verify completeness of those documents and operate photocopy and shredder office equipment.
* Ability to apply sound, objective reasoning and decision making.
* Ability to communicate effectively in verbal and written English; Bi-lingual ability in Spanish helpful.
* Ability to work effectively as a member of a group.
* Ability to read or listen to and apply sometimes complex statutory, legal or policy and directive information.
* Ability to organize and prioritize tasks.

This position is nonexempt from the minimum wage and overtime requirements of the Fair Labor Standards Act and is therefore eligible for overtime pay.
