Description CAMS Renewable Services LLC is hiring a Balance of Plant (BOP) Technician with expertise in electrical systems, substation maintenance, and grid-scale battery energy storage systems (BESS). This position, based in San Antonio, TX involves performing substation preventative maintenance, troubleshooting high-voltage systems, and preparing detailed reports on site conditions. A strong work ethic, effective communication, and documentation skills are essential. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Site Management: Oversee roads, signage, vegetation, and related infrastructure. Conduct regular inspections, maintain accurate records, and promptly address maintenance needs.
- Outage Management: Plan and execute both planned and unplanned outages, ensuring minimal disruption and high safety standards.
- Reporting: Submit comprehensive monthly reports detailing site inspections, maintenance activities, and operational status.
- Construction and Commissioning Support: Provide on-site assistance during BESS construction and commissioning to ensure successful project completion.
- Substation and Equipment Maintenance: Inspect and maintain medium voltage equipment and substations. Perform high-voltage electrical work, including managing outages to support construction and maintenance activities.
- Daily Work Order Execution: Complete work orders efficiently within standard work hours while ensuring high-quality results.
- Special Projects: Participate in pre-commissioning, commissioning preparation, and inspections for new substations and stage additions.
- Safety Compliance: Follow all clearance procedures, safety regulations, and wear appropriate High Voltage Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) at all times.
- Collaboration: Represent the company diplomatically in meetings with regulatory inspectors and external partners. Maintain strong professional relationships.
- Training: Attend manufacturer-provided training sessions as approved by management to stay updated on equipment and safety practices.
Requirements
- Electrical Engineering Technology diploma, state electrical license, or equivalent experience.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience with substations (e.g., gas circuit breakers, air switches).
- TX electrical license preferred but not required.
- Valid driver's license and ability to drive in inclement weather.
- NFPA 70E and Substation Maintenance training certification.
- Proficient with test equipment such as oscilloscopes, power quality meters, insulation testers, high potential testers, and fault-finding tools.
- Familiarity with low voltage systems, including maintenance and troubleshooting of power breakers.
- Certified in OSHA 10 (General Industry or Construction) and CPR.
- Ability to interpret electrical and mechanical schematics, technical manuals, and procedures.
- Strong organization, analytical, time management, and customer service skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Excel, Word).
Physical and Work Requirements
- Work at heights, in confined spaces, and possibly in awkward positions for extended periods
- Work weekends and remain on-call as needed.
- Daily commute to the project site near San Antonio, TX.
