Department - Production, MetalHours: (full-time, 40 hrs/wk) M-Th, 8 am - 5 pm | Fr, 8 am - 2:30 pm (regular OT expected included weekends as needed) Location: This position is located in Albany, NY - onsite work is required (Pay Range: $20 - $35/hr) Individual compensation isbased on various factors including skills, experience, qualifications, and other job-related factors. Fabricators Responsible for the cutting, bending, welding, and grinding of a variety of metals to carry out the shop's metal fabrication requirements. Digifabshop is a digital fabrication shop specializing in custom architectural interiors, building components, and fine art fabrication. Our work spans retail, hospitality, commercial, architectural features, and large-scale artwork. Our team works on technically ambitious, high-profile projects of complexity and scale. Digifabshop is looking for an experienced Brake form operator to join our rapidly expanding team. At Digifabshop, our brake form operator will be responsible for coordinated bending and execution of sub-assemblies, components and finished goods that require geometric bends in order to be complete. Primary responsibilities include: Operation and Setup of Brake Forming Machines:
  • Set up and operate brake press machines to bend, form, or straighten metal sheets according to specified dimensions and angles.
  • Adjust machine settings, including pressure, depth of stroke, and back gauge, to ensure accurate bends and forms.
  • Select appropriate tooling (dies, punches, etc.) based on job specifications and material types.
Reading and Interpreting Blueprints:
  • Accurately read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and work orders to understand job requirements.
  • Verify material specifications (thickness, type, etc.) against job orders before starting the operation.
Quality Control and Inspection:
  • Inspect completed workpieces for accuracy, ensuring all dimensions, angles, and forms meet the specified tolerances.
  • Use measuring tools such as calipers, protractors, and micrometers to verify the accuracy of bends and dimensions.
  • Identify and correct any defects or inconsistencies in formed parts, making adjustments as necessary.
Material Handling and Preparation:
  • Load and unload metal sheets onto the brake forming machine using appropriate lifting equipment or manual methods.
  • Ensure all materials are prepared and cut to the correct size before forming, coordinating with other team members as needed.
Machine Maintenance and Safety:
  • Perform routine maintenance on brake press machines, including lubrication, cleaning, and checking for worn parts.
  • Follow all safety protocols to prevent accidents and ensure a safe working environment, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Report any machine malfunctions or safety hazards to the supervisor immediately.
Collaboration and Communication:
  • Work closely with other team members, including welders, fabricators, and designers, to ensure seamless production flow.
  • Communicate any production delays, material shortages, or quality issues to supervisors in a timely manner.
Documentation and Record-Keeping:
  • Accurately complete job logs, time records, and other required documentation related to brake forming operations.
  • Maintain organized records of completed work, including material usage, machine settings, and inspection results.
Continuous Improvement:
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives by suggesting process improvements, tooling enhancements, or efficiency gains.
  • Stay updated with industry best practices and new techniques related to brake forming and metal fabrication.
Required Skills and Abilities:
  • Mathematics - Uses basic mathematics (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division); working knowledge of fractions and decimals
  • Communication - Effectively conveys accurate information to coworkers, Team Leaders, and supervisors while carrying out tasks
  • Reading Comprehension - Understands written sentences and paragraphs in work related documents
  • Quality Control Analysis - Examines products, services, or processes to evaluate their quality

Physical Requirements:
  • The ability to stand continuously for up to 2 hours at a time.
  • The ability to lift up to 75 lbs. frequently and repeatedly.

Work Environment: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts, airborne particles, fumes, and loud noises.
