Position Type: Brandywine Virtual Academy/Special Education InstructorDate Posted: 11/11/2024Location: IU Brandywine Virtual AcademyClosing Date: 11/22/2024 At the present time, a vacancy exists for a Special Education Instructor within the Brandywine Virtual Academy division of the Chester County Intermediate Unit. This position will be located remotely and in person at the CCIU Educational Service Center in Downingtown, PA. The Special Education Instructor will support students receiving special education services in the virtual program. This position is responsible for planning instruction and/or adaptation of the individualized education program to enable students to benefit from educational experiences. The Special Education Instructor provides comprehensive support to students attending the virtual learning program. The Special Education Instructor is responsible for the academic and social-emotional progress of his/her students and coordinating the supports, services, and team members needed to achieve success. The Special Education Instructor evaluates students' success as measured by achievement of Individualized Education Program (IEP) goals, course grades, attendance data, behavioral data, state assessments, and post-secondary assessments. - Bachelors level degree in education required
- Valid PA Special Education Certificate (7-12 or N-12) required; Valid PA Instructional Certificate also required if Special Ed Cert is 7-12
- Valid PA Instructional Certificate in Secondary Math, Science, or ELA highly preferred
- 3 yrs experience teaching special education required
- Experience in a virtual learning environment perferred
- Experience with secondary students preferred
- Experience working with special education students preferred
- Experience working with children and adolescents with severe and complex behavior challenges in school, community, or residential setting preferred
- Current police, child abuse & FBI fingerprint clearances required
- Clearance as an MA provider by the Commonwealth of PA and federal government (conducted by CCIU upon hire)
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Monitor special education progress monitoring data to proactively support student progress and intervene with supports and interventions when needed.
- Develop and implement student intervention plans when the progress monitoring data indicates support is needed.
- Ensure students receive specially designed instruction, accommodations, and services outlined in their IEPs.
- Hold synchronous office hours with students to provide additional instructional support, reteaching of lesson objectives, assignment support, etc.
- Assist with IEP compliance and auditing documents.
- Act as the liaison between LEAs, general education teachers, students, and parents/guardians
- Routinely confer with general education and special education teachers regarding students' progress.
- Supervise the completion of tasks to meet deadlines for compliance and state reporting
- Coordinate with School Counselor to ensure scheduling for the student is appropriate based on transcript review.
- Respond to LEA requests for program information
- Maintain contact with LEAs regarding student progress and attendance
- Conduct student and parent intake interviews and facilitate/provide program tours to prospective students, parents, and LEA personnel
- Provide overview of school/program policies and procedures
- Any other duties commensurate with the duties/responsibilities/grade of the post.
Schedule: 7.5 hours per day 194 days per year for new professional employees/191 days for professional staff in year two/190 days in all subsequent years. This position follows the BVA calendar.2024 - 2025 Salary School Year Salary:(based on experience):
- $56,355 to $87,396 - Instructional I Certification
- $58,814 to $90,897 - Instructional II Certification
- $62,567 to $99,261 - Master's Degree
- $66,706 to $105,039 - Masters + 30
