Position Type: Information Technology/Information Technology PositionsDate Posted: 8/28/2024Location: IT WarehouseDate Available: ASAPJob Description TITLE BUILDING AUTOMATION SYSTEMS SPECIALIST POSITION TYPE Exempt PRIMARY FUNCTION Installs, programs, monitors, and troubleshoots building automation systems in the school division buildings in order to ensure the optimal equipment performance, energy savings, and student achievement. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Completion of a building automation controls school and at least two years of controls installation experience or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required skills, knowledge, and abilities.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
  • In depth knowledge of the operation of various types of package and built-up HVAC systems, chillers, boilers, cooling towers and variable speed pumps and motors.
  • Knowledge and comprehensive experience with the hardware and software associated with the automated control systems used in the mechanical and building automation industry.
  • Thorough knowledge of personal computer applications, including word processing and spreadsheet software. Ability to prepare, maintain and update complex technical documentation.
  • Experience and knowledge of methods, materials, and equipment used in the mechanical and building automation industry, knowledge of codes, occupational hazards and safety precautions in the electrical and mechanical fields.
  • Ability to operate independently and without constant supervision, as well as in a team environment; maintaining an effective, professional, working relationships with IT employees, and other departments; ability to establish, maintain and prepare technical reports and documentation; and the ability to follow complex oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to use various types of testing equipment including digital multi-meters, signal generators and power monitoring equipment.
  • Ability to stoop, kneel, bend, and reach when working with HVAC and control equipment, and to lift forty (40) pounds; ability to grasp, hold, and manipulate tools and parts; ability to work in tiring and uncomfortable positions from ladders and scaffolds, etc.
  • Possesses a valid Virginia driver' license
REPORTS TO Manager of Projects and Logistics Support PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Programs and monitors the operation of HVAC equipment and lighting in school division buildings using building automation controllers, relays, and software.
  • Analyzes new building automation systems requirements and installs new building automation system hardware, wiring, conduit, controls, and sensors associated with the building automation system and configures software for the new hardware to improve operations and energy consumption.
  • Troubleshoots alarms, warnings and/or malfunctions as identified by the building automation system or generated in the building automation system.
  • Evaluates and repairs existing building automation hardware and software.
  • Installs new building automation system hardware and configures software for the new hardware; modifies existing building automation hardware and software as directed.
  • Monitors power consumption and quality to computers, various types of HVAC equipment and lighting.
  • Analyzes daily the performance of building automation and HVAC systems to maintain optimum performance. Investigates reported heating and air conditioning problems and initiates corrective action via the building automation system or refers problems to HVAC Maintenance staff as necessary.
  • Provides technical support and diagnostic information from the building automation systems to assist HVAC tradesmen; trains HVAC tradesmen as necessary in the operation of the building automation systems; and trains HVAC tradesmen as necessary on the maintenance/replacement of computer processors and sensors required for the proper operation of the building heating, ventilating and air conditioning systems.
  • Creates graphical displays of division buildings and enhances the graphics packages supplied by control system contractors using building automation system and AutoCAD software.
  • Researches and analyzes technical information on heating, ventilation and air conditioning equipment control and building automation software to insure compatibility and cost effectiveness. Keeps abreast of advancements and trends in building automation systems and HVAC system designs.
  • Manages contractors utilized for BAS replacement or improvement projects.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
