Building-Based Substitute Teacher Beaufort County School District, Beaufort, SC An ESS building-based substitute is assigned to a single school building for the duration of their assignment. This person reports to the same school each day to cover daily or long-termclassroom assignments as scheduled by the building administrator. This will include covering for absent teachers, school aides, and any other position that the school may need. Becoming a building-based substitute is the perfect position for an educator who enjoys forming long-term relationships with students and staff. Key Responsibilities• Report to office upon arrival at school; check mailbox of absent school employee for materials requiring immediate attention; request clarification of school rules and procedures, if necessary • Organize students for effective instruction • Implement lesson plans, while ensuring the integrity of academic time and in a manner, which motivates students to learn and participate • Provide instructional reinforcement for individual students or small groups of students • Supervise students in the cafeteria, schoolyard, specials, hallways, and/or during before and after school programs • Attend to students' physical, personal, academic, and emotional needs • Support students with special needs by following provisions specified in their IEPs/504 Plans • Respect and maintain confidentiality of student and school personnel information • Ensure adequate supervision to assure the health, welfare, and safety of all students • Report all student injuries, accidents, illnesses, and discipline problems to the appropriate authority immediately or as soon as is reasonably possible • Perform other related duties as assigned by building administrator(s) in accordance with school/state policies and practices Knowledge & Skills• Follow oral and written directions • Understand and follow lesson plans • Establish effective working relationships with staff and students • Set the proper tone from the beginning for classroom management • Flexible, friendly, and good at establishing quick rapport with students • Maintain a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality when dealing with student, staff, and/or parent information Special Requirements
  • Candidate must attend an orientation/training session and complete required district and state credentialing requirements (Background check, TB Test)
  • Regular instruction to special needs children may be necessary
  • 33 College Credits or more are preferred
