BUILDING INSPECTOR (PART-TIME) - Village of Mokena : Job Details

Mokena, IL, population 19,877, is a growing family-oriented suburban community with outstanding schools, parks, and excellent municipal services, located approximately 35 miles southwest of Chicago, in northeast Will County. The Village of Mokena is seeking professional, analytical, and self-motivated candidates to serve as a Part-Time Building Inspector in the Community Development Department.

The Village is seeking candidates with strong technical and communication skills to review building plans, conduct field inspections, and maintain detailed inspection reports and records. This position is a skilled role focusing on ensuring compliance with the Villages building and zoning codes. The position requires effective and outstanding communication skills as frequent communications will occur with numerous stakeholders, including builders, contractors, and residents. This position is expected to understand construction methods, materials, and building codes, as well as the proven ability to exhibit a collaborative, professional approach with stakeholders.

This position reports directly to the Assistant Community Development Director, and all Village employees are expected to embrace the motto, Where Our Customers Always Come First.

Candidates must possess a high school diploma or equivalent. Qualified candidates shall have at least four (4) years of progressively responsible experience in the building trades, construction, code enforcement, civil engineering, architecture, or related field. Prior experience as a certified inspector is a plus. All candidates shall be in possession of, or have the ability to obtain, International Code Council (ICC) Certifications within twelve (12) months of employment.

All applicants must possess a valid Illinois Drivers License. The anticipated starting hourly rate for this position is $34.48 with 20-25 hours per week. Part-time benefits include holiday and vacation time, sick leave, and may be IMRF pension eligible.
