About the Role The Building Maintenance w/ HVAC Instructor will work with a team of fellow instructors who provide training in four career areas: healthcare, construction, information technology and culinary arts. We are looking for a responsible, qualified Instructor, capable of assessing, planning, implementing, instructing, and evaluating educational programs in the field of Building Maintenance and HVAC. You will be responsible for teaching the Building Maintenance with HVAC class. This full-time position is scheduled for Monday - Friday mornings, 40 hours to include teaching time and prep time. This job is in-person and located in Menlo Park, California Responsibilities Duties may include, but are not limited to the following:
  • Design, develop, and instruct a comprehensive and up-to-date curriculum for a building maintenance course including training on HVAC systems. Ensure that the curriculum aligns with industry standards, regulations, and emerging technologies.
  • Safety and Compliance: Emphasizing and enforcing safety protocols, ensuring that students understand and follow safety guidelines when performing maintenance tasks.
  • Equip students with troubleshooting and diagnostic skills to identify and accurately diagnose maintenance issues.
  • Instruct students on predictive maintenance methods, utilizing monitoring techniques to anticipate and prevent equipment failures by analyzing data and detecting early warning signs.
  • Conduct engaging and effective classroom lectures, demonstrations, and hands-on practical sessions to impart knowledge about Building Maintenance skills as well as HVAC systems
  • Create and maintain accurate records, attendance, schedules, and course requirements regarding hours of instruction and content.
  • Oversee and guide students in laboratory and workshop settings, assisting them in applying theoretical knowledge to practical scenarios related to Building and HVAC maintenance and repair.
  • Evaluate and document student progress through testing, observation, and assessment of skills attained. Provide constructive feedback to help students enhance their skills and understanding of building maintenance, particularly in the HVAC field.
  • Teach in alignment with JobTrain's Mission, Values, and School-Wide Learning Objectives
  • Maintain professional growth through attendance at appropriate seminars, professional development, membership in professional organizations, and by connecting with professional resources.
  • Oversee the upkeep and maintenance of equipment, tools, and training facilities to ensure a safe and conducive learning environment.
  • Attend faculty/staff meetings in addition to on-site professional development workshops.
  • Implement and adhere to all school policies.
  • Participate in graduation ceremonies.
Experience
  • Experience teaching Building Maintenance courses
  • Experience teaching HVAC certification courses
  • Practical experience in the HVAC industry with expertise in installation, repair, and maintenance of HVAC systems.
  • Experience working closely with companies who hire Building Maintenance and HVAC employees (across industries) to help connect graduates to employment and externship opportunities is highly desirable.
  • Expertise in plumbing systems, specifically Drainage, Waste, and Vent (DWV) systems, and be able to teach students about fixture installation, DWV system layout, drainage, ventilation, backflow prevention, plumbing codes, repair techniques, pipe materials, and water supply systems.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Practical experience in the Building Maintenance and HVAC industries
  • Strong understanding of electrical concepts, including safety practices, electrical circuits, wiring, components, troubleshooting, electrical codes, lighting systems, motors, energy efficiency, and maintenance techniques.
  • Proven experience in instructional design and delivering effective training sessions.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills, with the ability to engage and inspire students in a classroom setting.
  • Patience, empathy, and the ability to adapt teaching methods to accommodate diverse learning styles.
  • Proficiency in using instructional technology and tools to enhance the learning experience.
  • Provide quality career technical training in Building Maintenance and HVAC that leads to student placement in careers.
  • Demonstrate proper techniques and safety procedures in the use of tools and equipment.
  • Provide instruction in basic industrial math; industrial safety and hazards; hand and power tools; maintenance troubleshooting; blueprint, drawing and symbol reading; industrial plumbing and pipefitting.
  • Provide hands-on instruction to students in areas such as HVAC, electrical (including Low Voltage 50 V or less), plumbing, and air conditioning, as well as HVACR, electrical fundamentals and equipment; electric lamps and lighting controls; and building layout and materials.
  • Experience with Heat Pump technology.
  • Provide hands-on Electrical Systems Technologies training.
  • Maintain Quality Assurance, safety (OSHA and government), contract fulfillment, training, and network administration.
  • Instruct students on OSHA regulations and procedures, and teach OSHA safety regulation, and best work practices.
  • Facilitate the certify of students in OSHA, CPR and Basic First Aid
  • Must be positive, responsive, and a motivational role model for clients.
  • Strong computer skills with competence in Microsoft 365 platform including Word, Excel and Outlook email. Experience using web applications and online meeting tools. In addition, able to provide training on work order ticketing systems (exL ARCHIBUS, CMMS, or ServiceNow).
  • Demonstrated ability to be dependable / reliable.
  • Ability to handle and maintain confidential information.
