Job Description :
The City of Florence is looking for a full-time Field Technician on the Building Maintenance division within the City's Public Services Department. The City of Florence Public Services Department is a regional leader in the public works industry. The Department is composed of nine divisions; Community Support Services, Infrastructure Support Services, Transportation & Storm Water, Drinking Water, Grounds Maintenance, Waste Water, Parks & Recreation, Building Maintenance, and Fleet Services. For more information about our department watch the video at The successful candidate will be vital in moving the department along the path toward improving the City's facilities. The job is challenging and rewarding while leveraging equipment and processes to maintain and improve various building components within the City by means of building repairs, painting, sign fabrication and snow removal among others. You'll be expected to continually develop and master new skills to support the progressive nature of the department.   • Ability to perform snow removal
  • On call after hours emergency response
  • Safely operate specialty equipment such as bucket truck and scissor lift
  • Strong customer service skills
  • Basic electrical skills such as ability to change out outlets, switches, replacing ballast, etc.
  • Basic plumbing skills such as copper pipe sweating, replacing fixtures, sinks, drains, etc.
  • Basic HVAC skills ability to change filters, start and run capacitors, condenser cleaning, etc.
  • Basic carpentry skills
  • Ability to repair and maintain signs throughout the City
  • Strong problem solving skills for all maintenance repairs
  • Manage assigned tasks and able to generate daily reports each day
  • Identify basic hand tools and power tools such as saws, drills, drain snakes, etc.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Must possess a valid driver's license
  • Ability to obtain, within 6 months of employment, a Class A CDL license
  • Knowledge and willingness to work safely
  • Ability to perform heavy manual labor for extended periods under adverse weather and environmental conditions
  • Must have visual ability sufficient to operate heavy equipment and trucks both day and night, to observe unsafe conditions of roadways, and to read and write reports, correspondence, instructions, etc.
  • Ability to: establish and maintain effective working relationships with City employees, government officials and the general public; communicate effectively orally and in writing; understand and carry out oral and written instructions; be dependable; initiate action and be resourceful; solve problems and be decisive; prioritize and accomplish assigned goals and objectives; manage time effectively; maintain important records and communication accurately, efficiently, and confidentially; exercise efficiency, thoroughness, accuracy and neatness; exercise integrity, patience, courtesy, diplomacy and tactfulness; exercise sound reasoning, good judgment and common sense; maintain professional conduct, demeanor and appearance when representing the City;
