Major Responsibilities This is semi-skilled work involving responsibility for independently performing a variety of mechanical and other building, grounds, and equipment maintenance tasks. The work performed may include painting, light carpentry, light plumbing, and basic HVAC and electrical maintenance and repair. Although a working knowledge of one or more of the skilled trades is necessary, a maintenance worker does not utilize the more skilled journeyman techniques for any considerable portion of time. General instructions are received and work is performed under immediate or general supervision, depending on the nature of the task.
- Performs semi-skilled work in plumbing, carpentry, electrical, and painting operations;
- Helps to install and repair wiring systems and electrical fixtures and HVAC equipment;
- Repairs windows, doors, floors, walls, furniture, screens, and door openers;
- Helps to install and repair general plumbing equipment such as sinks, toilets, and showers;
- Assists in cleaning and repairing Air handler units, water heaters, exhaust fans, lighting fixtures, door hardware and other mechanical operating equipment;
- Performs preventive maintenance duties such as replacing air filters, motor belts, roof drains, condenser & evaporator cleaning:
- Prepares surfaces and paints exteriors and interiors of buildings and structures;
- Performs general grounds maintenance activities and assists with athletic field events and setups;
- Moves or adjusts room furniture as needed;
- Serves as general handyman performing a variety of semi-skilled duties;
- Enters and tracks maintenance requests and maintains active key inventory for Res-Life staff
- Provides excellent customer service to the residents;
- Other duties assigned by the Assistant Director of Facilities for FSA
Required Skills Good knowledge of modern buildings and building maintenance and repair practices; knowledge of the practices and techniques of one or more of the standard trades; ability to work with general supervision; ability to understand and carry out oral and written directions; mechanical aptitude; manual dexterity; physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.
