BUS DRIVER QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Must comply with all employment criteria legally established by the Lee County Board of Education.
  • Requires a valid Commercial Driver's License with P and S endorsements
  • Requires a current Alabama School Bus Driver Wellness Screening or DOT Physical.
  • Demonstrated aptitude for successful completion of the assigned task.
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.
  • Background Check Required: (HB 402 ACT 99-361 Alabama Legislature) Upon offer of employment, employees will be required to submit legible fingerprints for a background review by the Alabama Bureau of Investigation and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. REPORTS TO: Transportation Director and Principal JOB GOAL: To provide safe and efficient transportation so that students may enjoy the fullest possible advantage from the district's curriculum and extracurricular program. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Applicable to All Employees:
    • Attend on a regular and predictable basis.
    • Complete assigned tasks in a safe manner and in a constant state of alertness.
    • Uphold Board policies, including the anti-harassment program.
    • Work in a cooperative manner with students, teachers, staff, supervisors, and the public.
    • Work effectively and efficiently under time and productivity standards.
    ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
  • Obeys all traffic laws and shall not use cell phones, two-way radios or any other communication device while bus is in motion.
  • Observes all mandatory safety regulations for school buses.
  • Maintains discipline when students are on bus.
  • Reports undisciplined students to the proper authority.
  • Keeps assigned bus clean and free of any debris along isle and floor on a daily basis.
  • Driver must clean bus inside and wash outside from top to bottom before turning in at the end of each year.
  • Maintains assigned bus schedule.
  • Checks bus before each operation for mechanical defect and maintains accurate data on a daily basis to include student counts. (Performs Pre-Trip Inspection)
  • Notifies the proper authority in case of mechanical failure or Tardiness.
  • Performs student drops only at authorized stops.
  • Exercises responsible leadership while operating a school bus and on school grounds.
  • Transports only authorized students as directed by administration.
  • Reports all accidents and completes required reports.
  • Enforces all regulations and policies set forth by the board on school bus.
  • Brings bus in once a month during regular contract months for bus inspections as scheduled.
  • Signs in twice a day (after AM route & before PM route) at designated reporting school site.
  • Maintains effective communication with supervisors through the daily use of communication devices provided and mail boxes at designated sing-in/out post.
  • Utilizes Two-Way radio for emergency purposes only or as requested by director.
  • Attends IEP meetings when necessary and requested by local school Administration.
  • Works with local school administration, director and drivers to solve routing problems.
  • Attends or makes up In-Service and Institute meetings on an annual basis.
  • Must ensure Lee County Bus is at school site when driver is absent or make prior arrangement with bus location for substitute.
  • Calls Bus Shop and School when absent from daily route.
  • PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; some squatting, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling; and significant fine finger dexterity. The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, sit, and talk or hear. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and color vision. This job involves sitting for long periods. WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to tasks that involve infrequent exposure to blood, bodily fluids or tissues. Risk involved with travel on main highway, side streets and rural roads during business travel, including evenings and weekends. Tasks that involve handling implements or utensils, use of public or shared bathroom facilities and personal contacts. Possible exposure to communicable diseases. Able to work a flexible schedule. Must be able to travel, enter, and exit a vehicle without assistance and withstand exposure to adverse weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Random drug tests may be performed. EMPLOYMENT: This is a nine-month contract (183 days). Salary is based on the current salary schedule. EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on evaluation of Support Personnel.
