We've got the best of both worlds in one company, and we invite you to become part of our growing team.Job Designation/Job Core ResponsibilitiesThe Buyer uses expertise in performing a variety of purchasing activities including pricing, negotiating terms, volume discounts, long-term contracts and delivery of goods\services with suppliers. Applies government laws and regulations while conducting procurement activities and ensures alignment with management objectives.Required Skills
  • Prepares and processes requisitions and purchase orders for the procurement of goods, services and supplies
  • Performs on time delivery of products or services, and negotiates with suppliers to reach highest quality at best value
  • Initiates bid/quote process for services, supplies and equipment; prepares bid documents and oversees the bid process; performs bid analysis and makes recommendations regarding purchases
  • Resolves problems and issues arising from purchase of services, supplies and equipment
  • Evaluates reports to define the need for the purchased product(s), prepares request for quotations, evaluates quotes, selects suppliers, creates and approves purchase orders (POs)
  • Manages specific custom commodities with high viability to balance demand and maintains an understanding of each supplier's capabilities and current capacity
  • Applies understanding of basic market drivers, so that reasonable pricing can be determined, and supply risk reduced
  • Develops appropriate sources of supply and maintains cooperative working relationships with vendors to stay current with trends and technologies, products and services
  • Maintains current and accurate purchase order data in the purchasing system such as delivery dates, pricing, change orders etc.
  • Other responsibilities as assigned
  • Consistent exercise of independent judgment and discretion in matters of significance
  • Regular, consistent, and punctual attendance is required. May need to work nights and weekends, variable schedule(s) and additional hours as necessary
Desirable Skills
  • Excellent written communication and verbal communication skills
  • Well-organized, detail-oriented, and ability to multi-task
  • Track record of building and maintaining customer/client relationships
  • Ability to work independently and prioritize duties with minimal supervision, in order to meet deadlines
  • Courteous telephone manner and the ability to communicate effectively with the supply chain as well as internal customers
  • Self starter with ambition to achieve the goals of the department
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite is required
  • Good decision making skills
  • Experience with ERP system preferred
  • Resolves problems and issues arising from purchase of services, supplies and equipment.
Education/ExperienceAssociate's Degree preferred or equivalent 5+ Years' buying experience in a manufacturing environment. 5+ years executing MRP in ERP system. Deltek/Costpoint ERP experience preferred, not necessary. Experience with Government subcontracting and flow down clauses a plus.Experience with procurement of raw steel materials for fabrication and fabrication assemblies.
