Job Description :
This position works under the supervision of the Chief Nursing Officer and assures provision of care to the assigned patient population in a professional manner, utilizing the nursing process and principles of continuous quality improvement in collaboration with other members of the healthcare team. The Charge Nurse is responsible for 1) the supervision of all Acute Care and ER staff nurses 2) assignment of duties, 3) auditing of documentation 4) ensuring conformance with policies and procedures, 5) provision of training and competency of staff and 6) successful organizational and administrative operation in accordance with current applicable federal, state and local standards, guidelines and regulations. This position is mostly nights, but may have a varied schedule, works some weekends and administrative stand-by. Required Education: Graduate of an accredited school of professional registered nursing. Current California RN license. Must possess current certification in: CPR. Neonatal Resuscitation Provider (NRP) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certifications are required to be obtained with six months of date of hire if not currently certified.Preferred Education: Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN). TNCC certification.Experience: A minimum of five years' experience as an RN in an acute care setting. Two years' leadership experience preferred. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Good analytical and critical thinking skills, good verbal and written skills to effectively communicate with physicians, management and other members of the healthcare team. Team player that can follow a system and protocol to achieve a common goal. Proficiency in use of electronic medical records. Proficient use of Microsoft Office - specifically Word and Excel. Ability to organize and triage. Ability to utilize the nursing process in the provision of nursing care including but not limited to administering treatments and medication, interpreting diagnostic tests, formulating a plan of care, collaborating with other health care providers and providing education to patients and/or significant others.
