The Cabinetmaker II produces cabinets, fixtures. architectural millwork and wood furniture for the university. Working independently and exercising good judgment and discretion is essential to this job.Essential Functions and Responsibilities1. As Essential Personnel you are expected to be available in the event of school closings, delays, shutdowns and any emergencies including clean up required because of severe weather incidents. Performs snow removal activities as assigned. Such as shoveling, salting, etc. Maintenance Technicians are essential to the overall success of Liberty University and its day-to-day functions, especially during ongoing campus events such as Winter Fest, Orientation, Convocation, Commencement, and CFAW, summer camps, amongst other planned and unplanned events throughout the year. Must be available to work scheduled and unscheduled hours as emergency needs arise.2. Reports to work at the required time and performs duties as assigned by the Cabinet Shop Supervisor.3. Responsible for wearing the appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) while performing the job duties and responsibilities of the Cabinetmaker Tech II including but not limited to; protective eye wear, ear protection, hard hat, gloves, steel-toed boots with slip resistant soles, respirators/masks, reflective safety vests, and sunscreen.4. Responsible for wearing a harness with a lanyard and other PPE if operating aerial lifts to perform & complete assigned jobs.5. Sets up and operates variety of woodworking machines and uses various hand tools to fabricate and repair wooden cabinets and high-grade furniture.6. Studies Blueprints or drawings of articles to be constructed or repaired, and plans sequence of cutting or shaping operations to be performed.7. Marks outline or dimensions of parts on paper or lumber stock, according to blueprints or drawing specifications.8. Matches materials for color, grain, or texture.9. Sets up and operates woodworking machines, such as power saws, jointer, mortiser, tenoner, molder, and shaper, to cut and shape parts from woodstock.10. Trims component parts of joints to ensure snug fit, using hand tools, such as planes, chisels, or wood files.11. Bores holes for insertion of screws or dowels by hand or using boring machine.12. Glues, fits, and clamps parts and subassemblies together to form complete unit, using clamps, or clamping machine.13. Drives nails or other fasteners into joints at designated places to reinforce joints.14. Sands and scrapes surfaces and joints of articles to prepare articles for finishing.15. Dip, brush, or spray assembled articles with protective or decorative materials, such as stain, varnish, or paint.16. Install hardware, such as hinges, catches, and drawer pull.17. Follows all safety and housekeeping policies to ensure a safe working environment.18. Must provide own hand tools to perform and complete trade related tasks.19. Remains abreast of existing and emerging technologies, processes, products, services and leading industry performance benchmarks.20. Works effectively as a team member, embracing and fostering LU's mission.Qualifications, Credentials, and CompetenciesThis position requires a high school degree or GED. Minimum of 3+ years of related experience in cabinetmaking doing a variety of woodwork. State Driver's license and insurable with company's agent. Must be able to work well with the public and co-workers and present a positive attitude. Clean and professional appearance. Must be courteous, detailed oriented. self-motivated, diligent, trustworthy, possess strong organizational skills and well-developed communication skills. Must be able to lift up to 75+ pounds and perform duties of the Cabinetmaker trade in typical Virginia Climate. This position might require the use of and operation of aerial lifts or be willing and able to obtain aerial lift certifications, operate, and work from various aerial lifts and heights. Desire to work with a team to accomplish goals. Urgency to grow and improve. Certifications obtained while employed by Liberty University at the expense of the employer will be reimbursed back to the University upon voluntary termination (resignation) for the first 12 months after acquiring it. Proof of a valid Virginia driver's license, an acceptable DMV record, and liability insurance is required. Must be able to work on weekends, holidays, and flexible daily/evening hours.
