Accountability:
Primary role is to use CADD programs to develop design plans for signal systems. Additional responsibilities include create and maintain bills of material and upkeep in an ERP system. The role supports engineering activities such as design, test, validation and/or check-out modification, and assembly of electro-mechanical test fixtures used in the validation process. Works from schematics, diagrams, written and verbal descriptions, layouts, test procedures or defined plans to perform testing, validation and/or checkout and trouble-shooting functions. May perform operational test and fault isolation on systems, product and equipment. May assist in determining methods or actions to remedy malfunctions. May assist in the design, construction, test, validation and/or check-out of test equipment. Uses manufacturing, test, development or diagnostic equipment, including, but not limited to, test programs, digital and/or analog meters, signal generators and specialized test apparatus
Supervision:
Normally receives detailed instruction and mentoring on most work from a Systems Engineer/Senior Systems Engineer or AVP Engineering.
Responsibilities include:
* Modify design drawings using CAD and/or Drafting Standards (using both AutoCAD and Microstation)
* Create Project Files and Setup Project
* Develop part number requests
* Maintain Bill of Materials; reviewing for pricing and accuracy
* Perform detail check of circuits, wiring diagrams and Bill of Materials
* Conduct factory testing using provided test sheets/plans; debug and troubleshoot routine to moderate errors
* Maintain submittal log
* Provide field support for testing, surveys and commission
* Create site manual and/or method books
* Call vendors for material or ordering information; may research parts needed for new designs
* Acquire a broad understanding of the function, department, and business by cross-training and supporting other roles, as requested
* Assist and provide input for labor estimates and schedules
* Construct test fixtures in support of unit and system test
* Assist engineers with building and testing prototype units
* Test jobs, continuity, tag, and breakdown
* Generate and distribute tags
Specialized or Technical Knowledge, or Education and Experience:
* CAD training and knowledge of CAD drawings
* Experience with CAD (AutoCAD/Microstation)
* High School Diploma or equivalency certificate
* Strong overall PC skills/knowledge
* Strong intuitive/cognitive skills
* Basic mechanical and electrical aptitude
* Ability to conduct preliminary engineering tasks
* Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word
Desirable:
* Two year technical certification training in electrical engineering or related field or equivalent
* One or more years experience in a factory or field environment using electrical tools, measurements and wiring circuits
* Familiarity with railway signaling and other railway components/parts
* Experience with PLC programming
