Burton is dedicated to high quality 21st century education.Job Description / Essential Elements: BURTON SCHOOL DISTRICT CAFETERIA HELPER JOB SUMMARY Cafeteria Helper, under supervision of the Director of Food Services and direction of the Lead Cook, assists in the preparation and serving of food in a cafeteria or a satellite operation; assists in maintaining food services, facilities and equipment in a neat, safe and sanitary condition. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS Knowledge of: District policies and procedures as they apply; Methods and practices of food service involving food preparation, serving and clean-up; Operation of equipment used in a modern food preparation environment; Oral and written communication skills; Interpersonal skills using tact, patience and courtesy; Proper methods of preparing, cooking, serving and storing foods. Ability to: Prepare and serve the school breakfast and lunch program in an efficient and cost effective manner. Work with minimal supervision and exercise independent judgment requiring speed and accuracy. Operate food service equipment and machines in a safe and proper manner. Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others. Perform appropriately in situations requiring tact and diplomacy. Understand and carry out oral and written instructions. Make simple arithmetic calculations with accuracy. Perform moderate physical exertion. Follow-through with directives. Work at various configurations. Adhere to safe work practices. Meet schedules and deadlines. Plan and organize work. Experience and Education: Any combination equivalent to: graduation from high school or possession of GED required; supplemented by one (1) year of food service experience. Possession of valid First Aid Certificate. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THIS POSITION 1. Perform a wide variety of specialized food service tasks; interpret and apply rules and regulations as appropriate. 2. Assists in the preparation and serving of school breakfast and lunch program in compliance with federal and state regulations. 3. Assists in maintaining a clean, orderly work area. 4. Assists in packaging and delivery of meals; Assists in the service of meals to students and staff. 5. Operates a variety of food-related equipment and machines. 6. Incorporated within one or more of the previously mentioned essential functions of this job description are the following essential physical requirements. 1. Seldom = Less than 25% 3. Often = 51 - 75% 2. Occasional = 25 - 50% 4. Very Frequent = 76%+ 1 Ability to work at a desk, conference table or in meetings of various configurations. 4 Ability to stand for extended periods of time. 4 Ability to see for purposes of reading printed matter and observing students. 4 Ability to hear and understand speech at normal levels. 4 Ability to communicate so others will be able to clearly understand normal conversation. 4 Ability to bend and twist, stoop, kneel, run and crawl. 2 Ability to lift 50 pounds. 4 Ability to carry 25 pounds. 1 Ability to operate office equipment. 4 Ability to reach in all directions.
