Salary: $22.00 - $25.00 Hourly Location : 116 Naticook Road, Merrimack Job Type: Full-Time Department: Parks & Recreation Department Opening Date: 11/19/2024 FLSA: Non-Exempt Normal Work Days:: Monday - Friday Hours of Work:: 8:00 am - 4:00 pm during the summer; 9:00 am - 5:00 pm during the school year Other Details:: Open until filled Job Summary The Camp & After School Program Coordinator oversees and manages all aspects of the Summer Day Camp program and the After School and School Vacation Week Programs. The Summer Day Camp consists of a (9) nine week program for up to 120 children per week in Grades K - 5 at Naticook Day Camp and up to 50 participants in Grades 5 - 9 in the Camp Trek program. During the School Year; this individual will be responsible for directing and managing all aspects of the After School and School Vacation Week Programs, which can have up to 45 children per day in Grades K - 5. The individual in this front line position will manage the day to day operations of these including program planning, staff & family relations, recruitment, and training and evaluation of the programs and of the employees working in the program. This position works in an indoor/outdoor environment and is often required to do several tasks expeditiously and concurrently. This position will require a great deal of interaction with children and with the public. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
- Must be at least 21 years of age.
- Bachelor's Degree in Recreation, Early Childhood Education, Physical Education or related field is preferred. OR Combination of education and experience that indicates an ability to meet the requirements of the job are also acceptable.
- Must have a minimum of at least 2 years of supervisory level experience working in a summer camp; after school program youth education and development, or other related youth recreation programs.
- Previous experience supervising and managing High School & College aged staff.
- Current CPR and Standard First Aid certifications or willingness to obtain.
Examples of Duties
Coordinates the recruitment and makes recommendations for selection of Camp & School Year Program Staff. Plans, organizes, schedules, directs, supervises and leads the daily operations of the Naticook Day Camp, Camp Trek, and a comprehensive After-School Programs. Carries out all supervisory functions in accordance with Town's rules, policies and applicable laws. Completes, administers, and maintains documentation on staff and participants. Works harmoniously, professional and politely with staff, participants, participants parents (or guardians) and the general public. During the summer, provides direction and support to the Assistant Director of Naticook Day Camp, Assistant Director of Camp Trek and other Camp Leadership to create a high energy, fun and creative experience for campers. Provides support to seasonal employees and gives guidance and opportunities to learn and grow. Develops, monitors and implements emergency management plan. Train all staff members in Emergency procedures and practices routinely. Prepares and facilitates staff training and holds weekly staff meetings with on-going learning opportunities. Monitor safety of all program participants and staff and works with Parks and Recreation Director to manage disciplinary issues as needed. Establishes positive rapport and on-going communication among staff, campers and their parents. Manages inventory and requisitions supplies in a timely manner. Provides ongoing evaluation of programs related to Camp & After School program, including recommendations for improvements the following season. Evaluates Camp & After School Program employees and provides additional training and mentoring if employee is not working up to acceptable standards. Works in conjunction with the Waterfront Director to ensure smooth operations when the Camp is utilizing the Town Beach. Report concerns to the Director of Parks & Recreation. Performs other duties as required. HOURS: Hours for this 40 per week position will fluctuate between the summer and school year. During the summer, the position will generally work Monday through Friday, 8:00 am - 4:00 pm. During the School Year, this position will generally work Monday through Friday, 9:00 am - 5:00 pm. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Experience dealing with parents in a professional and tactful manner. Knowledge of the development stages of children in Grades K - 9; Skills in communication, leadership and public relations; Ability to train and motivate staff, think critically and make sound evaluations, connect with campers and staff members, observe camper behavior assess its appropriateness, and to enforce appropriate safety regulations and emergency procedures, and apply appropriate behavior-management techniques. Ability to be resourceful and flexible in many situations and be able to think critically to identify and respond to hazards.
