Job Description:
The role of the Campus Police Officer is to deliver law enforcement and safety services aimed at protecting Dean College property and the members of the Dean community, in alignment with the department's mission to maintain a safe campus environment through a comprehensive program of services
Position Responsibilities include:
* Patrol campus buildings and grounds to deter crime, prevent theft, vandalism and other violations of state laws.
* Respond to, investigate, and document all calls for service and violations of college code of conduct and violations of state laws.
* Refer incidents to the Office of Student Conduct for disciplinary action, when appropriate, investigate accidents, provide direction and information to campus community and public and promote positive police - community relations through scheduled activities and routine interaction.
* Design and execute educational programming and training community members based upon the needs or current trends on campus.
* Provide additional coverage at college sponsored events.
* Provide transportation services including campus safety escorts (walking or vehicle), non-emergency medical transports to area medical facilities and other transportation duties as assigned.
* Perform other duties as assigned which are necessary to enhance the safety of the campus.
Requirements:
* Associate's degree in Criminal Justice (or related field) or a Bachelor's degree (in any field).
* Current certification from Massachusetts Peace Officer Standards and Training Commission or will be required to attend a full-time police academy upon hire.
* Ability to receive and retain certification from the Massachusetts Peace Officer Standards and Training Commission authorizing employment as a law enforcement officer.
* Hold and maintain an unrestricted United States driver's license, with an insurable driving history as determined by Dean College Risk Management,
* Hold and maintain a license to carry a firearm (large capacity) in Massachusetts in accordance with MGL CH140 sec 131.
* Possess strong human relations skills and the ability to work under stressful situations.
* Demonstrate the ability to analyze emergency situations and develop effective solutions to handle same.
* Extensive background check and successful completion of a physical and psychological evaluation required.
