Reporting into the Plant Manager, the Capital & Project Manager you will be responsible for interpreting, organizing, executing, and managing support specific strategic capital improvements and special projects for the plant's engineering group at our New Johnsonville, TN site. The role will be responsible for the engineering review, project management, cost control, and sustainability plan of the respective strategic and capital projects. The Capital & Project Manager will also take the lead in maintaining the Plant's Five-Year Capital Plan. The Capital & Project Manager is a member of the Plant Leadership Team, which works together to promote safety as a core value, support the company's vision and goals, and drive operational excellence. In this key role, the Project Manager must be capable of working well both independently and in a team environment.
PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES- Managing the overall project schedule, scope, budget, and quality via project management skills for all projects at the site.
- Managing complex engineering projects related to new production, capital investments and cost savings opportunities. This includes preparing capital appropriations and completing engineering projects from conceptual phase through project start-up and hand-off to the Operations Group.
- Clearly and consistently communicating between project team members, vendors/contractors, operations, and management teams on any safety incidents, delays, costs adjustments, or impacts to current projects.
- Managing the overall capital budget. This includes the need to track capital expenses for various engineering projects, coordinating with the Purchasing Department to collect bids on capital investments and assist in awarding contracts to the vendor that represents the best value, completing purchase orders, and tracking final costs to close the projects.
- The Capital & Project Manager must be able to coordinate multiple projects in parallel to be successful in this role. This includes establishing timelines and deadlines for planning, implementing, and maintaining applicable engineering projects.
- Coordinating with site management to oversee external vendors/contractors to ensure safety standards are met or exceeded throughout project lifecycle. This includes the need to supervise contractors and/or operations maintenance personnel on projects, as well as managing less experienced engineers and/or technical support personnel.
- Act as backup for other managers when out of the office and perform other duties as assigned. This will require the need to develop an understanding of the manufacturing processes and process instrumentation.
Requirement
- B.S. in Engineering
- 5+ years of Project Management experience, including a minimum of two years in a Chemical plant environment.
- Excellent written and verbal communications skills, strong planning and organizational ability are required.
- Essential to this position is the knowledge of Continuous Improvement Processes, Project Experience, as well as experience with Process Controls Systems.
- Demonstrated Project Management skills.
