Position Summary:Under the leadership of the Director, Blackshear Villa, the care specialist is an active member of the medical office staff that collects data, provides comfort measures and basic care to residents. The Care Specialist works under close supervision and accordingto specific instructions, performing a variety of basic resident care activities and related services necessary in caring for the personal needs and comfort of patients. The care specialist is responsible for providing care that is appropriate for the resident's developmental age and is culturally sensitive. Basic Qualifications:• Education:Requires a high school diploma in General Studies or a GED state certificate.• Experience:Requires up to six months of work-related experience or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience.• Licensure, Registrations & Certifications:Requires and maintains a current and valid driver's license. Requires a current valid driver's license. A motor vehicle report is required upon hire and reviewed annually. Essential Job Responsibilities:
  • Functions as part of an interdisciplinary team with positive interpersonal communication skills when communicating with patients, families, visitors, physicians, coworkers, and staff from other departments of the organization.
  • Assists residents with personal hygiene care and other routine services for residents requiring assistance with bedside bathing, dressing, shaving, offering and bed side commode, and giving back rubs.
  • Takes and reports patient vital signs and initial medical history or other related information. Observes residents' condition and ensures that medical equipment or apparatus is functioning properly. Maybe assist nurses or LPN's with resident examinations.
  • Administers respiratory therapy treatments per physician orders and the patient's age.
  • Answers residents' calls and ascertains residents' needs, acts upon routine requests and relays information to the proper person.
  • Performs a number of routine patient care procedures that require basic training.
  • Assists with the ambulation of residents.
  • Obtains resident specimens for laboratory analysis as directed.
  • Assists residents with basic hygiene, hair and oral care as required.
  • Complies with CRHS and Physician Services safety, infection control and performance improvement initiatives to ensure the delivery of quality care and services.
  • Attends scheduled in-service programs as requested.
  • Provides basic clerical support as requested.
  • Presents a professional image to CRHS nursing, clinical and medical staff members, patients, families, and visitors.
Standards of Performance:
  • Performs basic patient care tasks and clerical support duties as measured by feedback from co-workers and observations of the departmental Director.
  • Performs assigned patient care duties in a timely and accurate manner as measured by logs, charts, and observation.
  • Performs basic clerical support functions as measured by observations of departmental Director and co-workers.
  • Complies with standards of care, safety, and infection control policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrates reliability as measured by compliance with the CRHS time and attendance policy.
  • Demonstrates professional conduct and adherence to safety, confidentiality, and HIPAA standards.
  • Promotes interdepartmental and interdepartmental teamwork as measured by observations of the Director and coworkers
  • Adheres to the CRHS Standards of Behavior as measured by observations of managers, coworkers, and outside and/or inside customers.
  • Actively participates as a member of the healthcare team by attending all mandated in-service, as well as departmental staff meetings as determined by the departmental Director
  • Verbalizes and/or demonstrates the core competencies of the unit and department
  • Complies with regulatory requirements, including the National Patient Safety Goals, as observed by peers, supervisors, and other members of the healthcare team.
