This position will directly support high school students enrolled in the Career Center taking college courses on SEARK College's campus. The successful candidate will play a vital role in building the Early College Experience programming for Career Center students, supporting the Director with administrative tasks, facilitating work-ready workshops, coordinating events and guest speakers, and connecting students with SEARK College advisors for continuing education opportunities.The Early College Experience is a tiered approach to connecting secondary students with concurrent and dual enrollment opportunities. Through the ECE, students enrolled in the SEARK Career Center attend college classes on SEARK College's Campus, earning both high school and college credit. Upon successful completion of their programs of study, Career Center students are prepared to enter the workforce directly or they may choose to further their studies before entering the workforce.Primary responsibilities:
- Assist the Director and Office of Admissions with full-cycle enrollment for all Career Center students, including administering the ACCUPLACER as needed, helping students during their application process, and sending enrollment reports to appropriate internal offices.
- Collaborate with Disability Services and faculty about early alert interventions and proper accommodations.
- In conjunction with faculty, research industry partners and organize on-campus events providing students with direct contact with employers.
- With support of the Director, develop and facilitate work-ready workshops with Career Center students throughout the academic year (e.g., resume writing, interview skills).
- In conjunction with the Director, keep accurate administrative records and help with the preparation of required reports. Specifically, keep attendance records and grade reporting to the students' home school district.
- Supply general academic and career/transfer advising to current students. Help students with career exploration, selecting an area of study, and planning for postsecondary placement.
- Refer students to other offices or departments on campus as appropriate and function as a liaison to support secondary students in connecting with campus resources.
- Demonstrate regular attendance and punctuality.
- Interact with students, faculty, and staff in a professional and respectful manner.
- Participate in professional development appropriate to the responsibilities of the position.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Experience providing learning and/or career planning support to secondary students needed.
- Basic functional knowledge of the organization and operations of secondary schools and of a community college
- Skill in the use of office equipment and technology, including computers and related software, and the ability to master modern technologies.
- Familiarity with FERPA requirements and the ability to keep confidentiality of student records.
- Ability to keep confidentiality.
- Ability to work both collaboratively and independently, comfort with ambiguity.
QualificationsMinimum Qualifications
- Education: Associate degree
- Experience: experience collaborating with high school students
- Training or technical skills:
- Working knowledge of the internet and commonly used computer software
- Ability to pass a background check and completion or willingness to complete mandatory Child Maltreatment training.
Other job-related education and/or experience may be substituted for all or part of these basic requirements, upon approval of the Qualifications Review Committee.Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree
- Experience working with low-income and/or first-generation students.
- Experience working in a community college or workforce development setting.
Physical Demands and Work Environment Work is primarily in a climate-controlled environment with minimal safety/health hazard potential. Sedentary, sitting, walking, and occasional lifting (overhead, waist level) from floor, bending, frequent near vision use for reading and computer use; occasional situations involving complex interpersonal communication.
