A wide variety of tasks are performed to support the student and teacher in the teaching-learning process for the assigned student. Problems are solved through the exercise of judgment in selecting the best course of action to be taken.Education and ExperienceHigh school diploma or G.E.D.Certification and Licensure Requirements (if applicable):Essential Functions/Typical Tasks
- Serves a helper/caregiver to accommodate the comfort/needs of the assigned student. This may include feeding, toileting, lifting,
- Works in collaboration with the student's teachers to provide an effective classroom learning environment for the student
- Provides individualized instruction/directions to the students
- Demonstrates various instructional activities to assist the student's comprehension and ability to access the curriculum
- Keeps student on task
- Praises and reinforces achievement of the student
- Assists in data collection and reports student progress to teacher
- Assists with management of student behavior
- Monitor buses for students in need of Specialized Transportation as needed
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Experience and knowledge of students needs at different ages, educational and developmental levels
- Working knowledge of educational practices, processes, and techniques
- Willingness to become familiar with Craven County School Districts educational policies and rules as well as federal and state laws, regulations, policies, and rules
- Skill in communicating verbally, and written, through translation and interpretation
- Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relations with others
- Maintain confidential student information
- Participates in staff development opportunities by the District.
- Participates in CPI certification yearly.
Physical RequirementsWork is performed while standing, sitting and/or walking. Position will require the ability to communicate effectively using speech, vision, and hearing and the use of hands for simple grasping and fine manipulations. Work will entail bending, squatting, crawling, climbing, reaching and the ability to lift, carry, push, or pull medium weights, up to 50 pounds.
