Position Summary Constructs and maintains structural components, ceilings, doors, woodwork, furniture, equipment, fixtures and all their necessary parts. Receives supervision as necessary to carry out duties and responsibilities. Works independently with minimal supervision. Essential Functions and Responsibilities Includes the Following: Understands and adheres to the WPH Performance Standards, Policies and Behaviors Installs, maintains, inspects, tests, and repairs systems according to the requirements of the City of White Plains, State of New York, County of Westchester, NYS and County Health Departments, NFPA, The Joint Commission, and all other authorities having jurisdiction. Uses standard carpentry hand and power tools such as saws, plains, sanders, routers, etc. to cut and fashion parts for furniture, counter tops, cabinets and other wooden or structural assemblies. Performs such activities as measuring, sawing, squaring, sanding, nailing, etc. to effect construction or repair of furniture, partitions, doors, windows, floors, walls, ceilings, building framework and any other components deemed necessary. Repairs inspects locks and other door devices and hardware and maintains fire door equipment. Builds special equipment with such material as Corian, Formica, etc. Calculates type and quantity of materials needed and requisitions lumber, ceiling materials and other supplies necessary. Maintains hospital key systems such as repairs replaces cylinder locks, cut keys, and replaces pins cores Coordinate and manage service calls with vendors. Attends meetings as required. Assists in snow removal as needed. Performs all other related duties as assigned. Must maintain a calm disposition and work well under stress. Able to work well both alone and with others. Needs little supervision and is a self-starter. Demonstrates ability to establish two-way communication by clearly defining expectations, communicating and utilizing a variety of methods, actively listens to ideas and responds in an appropriate manner. Physical/Mental Demands/Requirements Work Environment Must be physically capable of performing necessary job duties and be able to visually and audibly determine any discrepancies in equipment. Must have physical dexterity, coordination and stamina to perform the inspections, which involves ascend/descend ladders, using and operating the tools and machinery to perform job duties. Must be able to transport heavy objects up to 50 lbs Must be able to remain in a stationary position for prolonged periods Must be able to constantly position self in order to perform job duties over an extended of time. Must be able to perform snow/ice removal and work in all outdoor weather conditions. Must be able to perform job duties when exposed to high level of noise. Able to work from sketches and blueprints. Able to respond to written and verbal instructions. Able to concentrate for extended periods of time. Able to work well with department staff and other hospital staff. Able to maintain a calm disposition and work well under stress Able to communicate effectively with all hospital departments and personnel. Have visual perception needed to comprehend color-coded wiring systems. Able to communicate via telephone, fax machine, computer, internet, etc May be exposed to chemicals necessary to perform required tasks. Any hazardous chemicals the employee may be exposed to are listed in the hospitals SDS (Safety Data Sheet) data base and may be accessed through the hospitals Intranet site (Employee Tools/SDS Access). A copy of the SDS data base can also be found at the hospital switchboard, saved on a disc.
