Daily Pay On-Demand Available!!!Mobile Friendly Application!Carpenter Job Description Reports to: Maintenance SupervisorDepartment: Facility ServicesFLSA Status: HourlyOBJECTIVE/PURPOSEThe Carpenter possesses a variety of skills encompassing most of the construction trades; assisting other skilled trades; and ensuring that tools and materials are available at job site. This individual possess the ability to deal tactfully, effectively and courteously with co-workers, management and our customers.MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND FUNCTIONS
  • Conduct regular building tours, inspections, identifying needs and executing corrective action and/or coordinating with management and outside contractors.
  • Taking measurements and calculating the size and amount of material needed.
  • Lay out flooring, roofing or drywalls ensuring they are leveled and compatible.
  • Read blueprints/instructions and examine surfaces to determine the kind and amount of work necessary.
  • Make on-site preparations such as building scaffolding, covering fixtures etc.
  • Prepare walls for painting by scraping, using sandpaper, removing old paint etc.
  • Fill nail holes, cracks, and joints with putty, plaster, or other filler.
  • Utilize chisels, planes, saws, drills, and sanders to repair and erect structures.
  • Receive and complete work orders while maintaining accurate records on material and labor.
  • Maintain inventory of tools and assist with inventory control of materials and equipment.
  • Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties, including lifting, climbing, etc.
  • Use levels, rules, plumb bobs, framing squares, and surveying equipment to ensure everything. is level and secure.
  • Maintain good working order of company vehicle including refueling, report any mechanical issues and filling out and submitting monthly vehicle inspection form.
  • Assemble and fasten materials to make framework or props, using hand tools and wood screws, nails, dowel pins, or glue.
  • Build or repair cabinets, doors, frameworks, floors, and other wooden fixtures used in buildings, using woodworking machines, carpenter's hand tools, and power tools.
  • Inspect ceiling or floor tile, wall coverings, siding, glass, or woodwork to detect broken or damaged structures.
  • Receive and complete work orders while maintaining accurate records on material and labor.
  • Workdays and schedules are generally routine, however are subject to change. Be prepared/available to work nights or weekends, on a rotating basis, to service emergency needs of our customers.
  • Follow all safety requirements including lockout/tagout and use appropriate PPE.
  • Identify and report to Maintenance Supervisor potential opportunities for additional business (newer system, service contracts, and additional services).
  • Requires flexibility and understanding that all maintenance staff may be required to perform duties outside their normal area of expertise to meet the mission and goals of the Facility Services Department.
  • OT may be required without notice to complete work assigned - time off may be offered or required within the same pay period to meet budget demands.
POSITION SPECIFICATIONS EDUCATION: High school diploma or equivalent. Successful completion of apprenticeship.CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: Valid drivers license.EXPERIENCE: Requires two to four years' residential or commercial carpentry experience.SKILLS: Conscientious with great attention to detail. Manual dexterity with excellent balance to work on scaffolding, ladders, etc. Excellent customer service skills with desire to exceed customer expectations.PHYSICAL DEMANDS: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle or feel, and reach with arms and hands. The employee is required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must lift / move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, and ability to adjust focus. WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work environment characteristics described here represent those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.
