Purpose of Classification:
The purpose of this classification is to perform carpentry installation, maintenance, and repairs in County buildings and facilities.
This classification is safety sensitive, subject to random drug testing in accordance with the County's Drug & Alcohol Policy.
Essential Functions:
The following duties are normal for this position. The omission of specific statements of the duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned.
Maintains, repairs, and replaces interior and exterior door locks, closers, frames, and hinges; inspects doors to identify needed repairs; checks lock, door frame, door swing, and door latch speed; and makes needed repairs.
Maintains, repairs, and replaces walls and ceilings, such as drywall, plaster, cinder block, acoustic tile, soundproofing, and custom woodwork; inspects for mildew; determines source and cause of damage; makes required repairs consistent with current building code; and performs finish work, such as drywall finishing, wood paneling, wallpaper, millwork, laminate, ceramic tile etc..
Maintains, repairs, and replaces roofing and components; cleans and replace gutters; determines cause of damage and if cause has been eliminated; removes damaged sections; and replaces with new materials.
Maintains, repairs, and replaces windows; installs new glass; re-glazes glass; determines the type of glass; identifies source and extent of the damage; and determines if a contractor is required.
Repairs and replaces flooring, such as historical structures, ceramic tile, wood, carpet, tile, vinyl, composite tile/VCT, etc.; determines if floor was installed by contractor or County employees; determines extent of damage; removes all old flooring; and replaces with new flooring.
Installs fences; removes mold and mildew; determines the extent of needed mold remediation; determines whether in-house or contractor installation; and develops a list of materials and personal protective equipment required as per OSHA regulations.
Determines amount of materials needed to complete projects; provides cost projections as requested; gathers equipment, tools, parts, and supplies; monitors inventory levels; and orders new or replacement materials as required.
Minimum Qualifications:
High school diploma or GED required, with vocational and technical training in carpentry, building trades, or a related field; two years of experience in carpentry or the building trades; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
Specific License or Certification Required: Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia driver's license.
