Facilities Management (FM) supports the University of Virginia's wide range of research, academic and patient care programs. With over 1,100 employees dedicated to excellence, Facilities Management is responsible for the day-to-day operation, repair, and maintenance of UVA's buildings, infrastructure, and grounds as well as other University-owned and leased properties.
We have an exciting opportunity for a Carpenter in our Facilities Management Construction & Renovation Services group, which supports Facilities Management's goal of providing consistent, cost-effective, and reliable carpentry and maintenance to the University community. The incumbent performs work of moderate difficulty with responsibilities for constructing, erecting, installing, and repairing structures of wood, plywood, wallboards, sheet metal, and other building materials. The Carpenter also performs other miscellaneous duties such as lock installation and repair, replacing glass and ceiling and floor tiles, and other building trade-related duties.
Duties include:
* Provide framing, door, window, and hardware repairs. Repair, install, and finish millwork, casework, or other wood products.
* Construct partition systems. Form, pour, and finish concrete when necessary.
* Perform other miscellaneous duties as assigned by the supervisor, such as snow and ice removal and replacing ceiling and floor tiles.
* Attend safety meetings, classes, and training seminars as directed by the supervisor to keep informed of safety issues and safe working practices.
* Inform customers of job status, reasons for and duration of expected delays, as well as refer customers to the supervisor when appropriate.
* Perform all work in accordance with safety rules and procedures, such as OSHA, federal, state, and local regulations.
* In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned.
Qualifications:
Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
Experience: A minimum of four years of experience in carpentry and woodworking. Experience working in a Medical Center/Hospital setting and experience in reading blueprints is preferred.
Licensure: Valid Driver's license.

Compensation:
The Anticipated Hiring Range for this position is $ 23.50 - $27.50 per hour ($48,800 - $57,200 Annually). New employees to UVA may be eligible for a $3500 sign-on bonus. This is a full-time position with UVA benefits. Employee benefits package highlights include:

Physical Demands:
Employee must be able to variously sit, stand, walk, climb stairs and ladders, crawl, stoop, bend, squat, lift, pull, and use both hands-on repetitive tasks (including overhead tasks). Employee must have normal vision and hearing (correctable), and for some areas of employment, color vision and sense of smell.
