Job Description :

Schenectady County is currently recruiting Caseworkers to investigate abuse or neglect cases, assess client/family strengths and needs and develop, and coordinate and monitor implementation of service plans to meet the needs of clients and families served. This position provides crisis intervention services, arranges for services and documents all casework as prescribed by rules and regulations. Incumbents may recruit, train, recommend and monitor homes for foster care and adoption. Incumbents participate in ongoing in-service training in social casework practices and procedures including training in applicable laws and regulations. Incumbents prepare written assessments and plan, report and testify in court.

PLEASE NOTE: It is anticipated that this position will be temporarily deemed Non-Competitive by the NYS Civil Service Commission and a Civil Service Examination will not be required if hired in 2023.

Qualifications

Candidates must possess the following minimum qualifications to be considered:A. Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered four year college or university with a Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice, Social Work, Psychology, Counseling, Human Services, Sociology, Behavioral Health or Education; ORB. Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered four year college or university with a Bachelor's Degree in any field and one year of social casework experience in a social agency adhering to casework principles and practices.

In compliance with Section 424-a of the Social Service Law, candidates who are being considered for employment will be required to sign a release form for clearance determination by the New York State Child Abuse/Neglect Central register. Candidates must possess a valid driver's license issued by the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles at the time of appointment, and must maintain such license throughout employment.
