- Leads the activities of employees engaged in the collection of payments for municipal utility bills, licenses, municipal taxes, parking violation fees, and other miscellaneous fees;
- Verifies all monies received from other City departments;
- Redeems auditor's warrants and rebate checks received from banks;
- Checks and pays for all bonds and coupons;
- Orders and verifies money delivered by armored courier;
- Replenishes money supplies for all cashiers; leads the closing and balancing of cash drawers;
- Checks and prepares money receipts from bank deposits;
- Prepares daily balance of all cash received and disbursed;
- Maintains custody of the physical storage areas for received monies such as a vault, deposit room, or safe;
- Investigates problems concerning payment of fees;
- Establishes both escrow and cash accounts for customers;
- Generates end of day reports from computer files and communicates the results of such reports;
- May communicate with individuals who have limited English language skills;
- May perform duties assigned to a Cashier I.
Minimum Qualifications Completion of the twelfth school grade and two (2) years of experience as a Cashier I with the City of Columbus or comparable experience. Substitutions: A certificate of high school equivalence (GED) will be accepted in lieu of a high school diploma. Test/Job Contact Information The names of the applicants passing this administration of this exam will be used to create a NEW, OPEN COMPETITIVE, eligible list for this classification. If you are interested in having your name included on the new eligible list, you will need to apply for this exam within the filing period and successfully complete all phases of the testing process. The examination process will consist of a multiple-choice exam weighted 40% covering supervision, reading comprehension, problem sensitivity, and logic and reasoning; and a computer simulation exam weighted 60% covering mathematics, bank reconciliation, bank deposit, petty cash, alpha and numeric filing, Outlook 2010, and Word 2010. Approved applicants will be notified by mail/email of their scheduled test date and time. All applicants must complete all phases of the testing process in order to receive a final score. The names of all candidates who pass this examination will remain on the eligible list for two years, unless the eligible list is replaced prior to or extended beyond the two years. If a candidate's name is certified and the candidate is to be considered for employment, the hiring process will include one or more interviews, a criminal background check, and a pre-employment drug test. For any position within the Division of Police, the hiring process will also include the completion of an extensive personal history questionnaire and a polygraph examination.
