They also will attend events and help oversee the function and utility of the back of house and prep space, check on events as they occur, guide teams to ensure duties are fulfilled and client's requests are met, maintain healthy communication between catering and kitchen staff, meanwhile fostering a cooperative working climate, maximizing productivity and employee morale in Sewanee Catering and Sewanee Dining Services.This position receives general supervision. Broad instructions are provided and the staff member uses judgment and experience to carry out assignments. Completed assignments and finished products are reviewed by the supervisor after completion.Career Band: NE7 Position Description Typical Duties & Responsibilities:
- Maintains constant contact with the kitchen staff to ensure complete effective communication between food production and food service.
- Ensures all functions are set.
- Ensures staff is prepared and organized before required time on event sheets.
- Approaches all encounters with guests and colleagues in a friendly service-oriented manner.
- Maintains communication with the Catering Manager and clients on and off-site to ensure all expectations are met or exceeded.
- Coordinates the delivery of requested services.
- Inform the Catering Manager immediately of any delays or unforeseen issues that may arise during surrounding events.
- Ensures proper setting of buffet tables and other food services tables.
- Arrange for and ensure proper sequence of service for each event.
- Supervises the clearing and post-event clean-up.
- Maintains clean and orderly back areas, pre-event areas, and storage areas.
- Assures that all china, glassware, silverware, linen, etc. are returned to their proper location after each event.
- Supervises the handling, storage, and security of all catering service equipment and décor.
- Work with the Executive Chef to ensure production sheet and food quantity and quality are met for events.
- Work with the Catering Manager and Assistant Catering Manager to ensure the quality and accuracy of set-ups within all event sites are met.
- Communicating between branches of Kitchen, Catering Management, and Catering Office regarding last-minute changes.
- Ensuring pre-event prep work is carried out before the next shift.
- Assisting the Assistant Catering Manager with events as directed.
- Maintain fuel levels and see that vehicles are regularly serviced.
- Follow traffic laws and drive in a safe manner to ensure the safety of the driver, others on the road, the condition of the truck, and food.
- Supervising the cleaning, maintenance, and security of vehicles.
- Comply with all departmental policies, rules, and regulations.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Judgement Required: Judgments and discretion as to the use of established policies are required to perform the essential duties of this position.Machines & Equipment Used: University-issued Catering Vehicles, all equipment used in an institutional kitchen, proficient in using a computer to utilize Banner Self-Service and Kronos time management systems.Budgetary Responsibility: NonePersonal Interaction/Communication:
- Student Contact: This position will come in contact with students on a daily continual basis. This is one of the main focus points of this position which is to provide excellent customer service to the student population and clientele.

- External: This position will come in contact with multiple facets of external clients of the University in a variety of operational settings.
Attributes of a Successful Candidate Education:
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- Vocational or specialized training is preferred.
Experience:
- Minimum of two years of experience in industry or a related position.
- A minimum of two years of driving experience is preferred.
Job-Related Skills:
- Ability to walk and stand for long periods of time.
- Ability to bend at the knees and lift objects weighing up to 50lbs and greater weights with assistance.
- Must provide exemplary customer service skills and support client requests as necessary during events
Licenses & Certifications:
- ServSafe Management Certification or acquire within 6 months of hire date.
- Must have a valid Tennessee Drivers License along with a clean driving record and insurance
