Certainly, in this role, you will have typical duties you would expect as a Driver-you will transport and deliver goods. However, being a Driver for BWI is much more than driving a truck. As a Driver your role is critical in meeting our customers' needs and is an essential piece in our customers' relationship with BWI.In this role, you will:
- Drive tractor-trailer combinations and straight trucks to transport and deliver products.
- Frequently interact with customers.
- Follow safety and placarding procedures.
- Perform trip, vehicle, and equipment inspections.
- Maintain logs of working hours and vehicle service and repair.
- Obtain delivery receipts/signatures and collect payment when required.
- Check load documentation for completeness and accuracy.
- Correctly maneuver trucks into loading/unloading positions.
- Properly secure cargo for transport.
- Read invoices to determine assignment details.
- Report vehicle defects, accidents, traffic violations, and damage to vehicles or property.
- Read and interpret maps.
- Couple and uncouple trailers by changing trailer jack positions, connecting or disconnecting air and electrical lines, and manipulating fifth-wheel locks.
- Collect delivery instructions, verifying instructions and routes.
- Operate onboard computers, CB radios, and telephones.
- Load and unload trucks and help others with loading and unloading. Operating loading-related equipment. (Some manual unloading may be required.)
- Collaborate with other BWI employees (e.g., employee training and sharing information) to ensure customer satisfaction and teamwork.
- Call office twice daily, preferably at or about 11:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. and at the conclusion of route.
- Turn in travel expenses with receipts at the conclusion of each trip.
- Complete trip rand returns reports.
- Maintain tractor/truck cleanliness.
To apply, you must:
- Be at least 21 years old,
- Have a High School diploma or General Education Degree (GED),
- Have a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) 'A' & 'B', with Haz-Mat and Tanker Endorsement,
- Have at least one-year CDL driving experience,
- Have a clean MVR with less than 3 moving violations over three-year period,
- Be able to pass DOT physical & DOT drug screen, and
- Have no DWI / DUI convictions within the past 5 years.
