Responsibilities Purpose: Responsible for primary manufacturing of developmental trial films and laminates. Primary manufacturing includes operation of machinery, evaluation of finished or in-process materials for conformance to customer requirements using laboratory and other testing methods, movement of materials, and general housekeeping of manufacturing areas to ensure a safe and clean environment. Dimensions: Operates and/or assists on one or more production line and assists in shipping, receiving, and warehouse needs when necessary. Responsibilities/Principal Duties: Start extruder from complete shutdown and be able to shut the unit down. Calibrate hoppers according to run plans. Disassemble, clean and reassemble dies, feed blocks, piping, and screw/barrel assemblies. Set machine parameters to SOC or previously recorded trial conditions. Prepare and handle raw materials, finished goods and scrap in support of trial needs. Complete documentation accurately for trial log book records, material usage, shipping and testing results. Troubleshoot extrusion machinery and process to achieve trial objectives. Understand and follow the machine SOPs and safety policies. Use lab results to adjust line conditions to achieve trial objectives. Analyze data using Statistical Process Control techniques and adjust manufacturing parameters to achieve property targets. Assist in operational tasks such as loading/unloading trucks, inventory activities, and maintenance efforts as needed. Maintain a clean work environment by cleaning floors, machine surfaces, walkways, platforms, hoppers and all other areas that could potentially result in product contamination. Work cooperatively with others in a self-directing team environment. Work in a safe manner. Report any safety hazards to Pilot Plant Supervisor or R&D Director. Education: High School Diploma or GED Experience : 1-2 years minimum of extrusion experience preferred. A current Berry Global forklift operator license will be required. Physical/Cognitive Requirements : Work is performed in a plant environment with frequent contact with others. Requires prolonged standing and frequent bending, stooping and stretching, manual dexterity, the ability to distinguish letters, occasional lifting, and the use of office equipment. Demonstration of leadership ability and an understanding of the basics of extrusion and/or conversion.
