Job Description :

Job Objective: To lead the Celebrate Recovery ministry at the Kansas City Eastside Corps working closely with the Outreach Director and other recovery agencies. The position serves as the point of contact for all recovery initiatives at Eastside Corps including setting the schedule and content of all large and small group meetings and recovery step studies in the Corps and connecting individuals in recovery to community organizations and agencies.

Essential Functions:

  • Schedule all CR ministry activities for the Corps, including Celebrate Recovery meetings (large and small group) and small group step study meetings
  • Plan the weekly large group meetings, including worship outline, worship songs, and lesson plans for the bi-weekly recovery lessons
  • Lead efforts to promote the Celebrate Recovery program to the community and local agencies and organizations
  • Build relationships with local community organizations and agencies to connect individuals in recovery to services such as job sourcing, low-income housing, recovery houses, and housing for felons

Minimum Qualifications:

Education: Associate degree in Substance Abuse Counseling or equivalent experience or volunteer experience working with individuals in recovery; prefer individuals who have attended Celebrate Recovery leadership training

Experience: One year of experience providing services and classes to individuals in recovery

Certifications/Licenses: Obtain Peer Ministry Certification within 90 days of employment.

Skills/Abilities:

  • Ability to organize, prioritize and meet work schedules on timely basis with minimum of direct supervision
  • Excellent verbal communicator and capacity to teach large and small groups utilizing an established lesson plan
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Analog AV Sound Boards
  • Ability to work irregular and extended hours when required
  • Willingness to accept on-call assignments during emergencies
  • Ability to work well with staff and volunteer teams and maintain a professional relationship with them and others within the church
  • Position requires a confident, self-motivated, multi-tasked individual with integrity in the use of resources
  • Act in a manner consistent with the Mission of The Salvation Army

Supervisory Responsibility: None

Physical Requirements: Employee must have the ability to sustain physical activity both inside and outside for extended periods of time. Work requires ability to stand, walk, climb, kneel and lift up to 50 pounds. Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals to perform the essential functions of this job.

Travel: None

Driving: Driving is required; Employee must possess a valid driver's license from the state of residence; must be approved through The Salvation Army Fleet Safety Program to drive either a Salvation Army or personal vehicle on Salvation Army business

Working Conditions: Work is performed both indoors and outdoors; may require irregular and/or extended hours on periodically
